HI there.

I'm pretty sure this game ran fine on my old PC, however I am unable to get it run with a decent resolution, currently it is unplayable and would hurt any ones eyes trying to play it.

Windows 7 64bit Already have the 1.2 Geforce patch installed

The game is running on a GTX 780 @ 1920 x 1080 which I think is the problem. At first the game was small in full screen and had them black boxes, after searching the web a bit I found the custom launcher 1.31, it seem to run fine and remove the black boxes, however the customer resolutions it came with, would not work and I still ended up with a small screen once in game.

I've tried many things, such as lowering my own screen resolution in settings, hoping it would transfer over, but this does not help.

Any suggestion guys?

Give Aali's custom driver a shot, can be found on these very forums, works for both VII and VIII, allows you put your own custom res choice in.

Thanks, I was trying that last night, however I was having trouble installing it ha.

I installed the Aali's custom driver, however the screen is still staying small, I think the native resolution of the game, while everything else is black. Changing the settings just seem to make the game sharper, while the only thing that does change is the aspect ratio if I turn it off, this just makes the game slightly wider.

Hi,

This post is really old, but I have the same problem and maybe some of you found out how to solve it now?

I use FF8 launcher 1.31

I can not remember exactly, you'll probably have to start "FF8Config", select the tab "Grapic" and then set "Full Screen".

This error occurs on my knowledge only, if the game running in the quarter-image mode.
Check the properties of "ff8.exe", "FF8Config.exe" and "FF8_Launcher.exe".
All three programs should have the same compatibility settings (in my case NONE).

Hm...

There are always two patch 1.2, you may try the other one?
Or the U.S. patch instead of the UK patch?
