How to get PS1 controller to work with FFVII PC?
« on: 2012-04-07 02:42:20 »
Hi there guys. I finally got FVII PC with the remix compilation installed correctly and it seems to run perfectly. Not to mention it looks awesome. The problem is I cannot figure out how to get my PS1 controller to work with the game.

I have my controller connected to an adapter which is then connected to my PC. Windows 7 (64) installed the driver for it automatically and it does indeed work within Windows. Every button is responsive when I go to it's options in control panel-->devices and printers-->joystick.

How do I make it work in the game? I pull up the menu using the keyboard, go down to config and then try to map the buttons out on the controller but it doesn't work. It just sits there as if it is waiting for me to press a button on the controller (which I obviously do). I've also searched on the forums for solutions but have come up short.

Any help is seriously appreciated, I can't wait to get playing! Thanks very much.

You need to use a program like XPADDER to simulate the  keyboard using your gamepad.

I use Joy2Key, freeware and works great.

But I use my ps1 controller in FF7 with joybox5 adapter and do not need to use joy2key.  The inbuilt FF7 PC support works just fine.

Thanks for the replies, I will try your suggestions tonight at some point. Below is an eBay link to the adapter that I've got. I think it came with a driver CD but I bought this thing years ago and haven't got a clue where the CD went. Hopefully all I need is one of the programs you guys have suggested as Windows 7 installs the driver for the adapter automatically.
