Problem with bootloader
« on: 2012-06-27 00:46:11 »
Sorry if im posting this in the wrong section but anyway, i have a problem when i go to launch ff7 through bootloader. i have done the entire process twice and came out with the same problem both times. When i go to launch the game through bootloader the screen goes black like it is going to launch and then it disappears and i get the message "Terminates Processes has stopped working." Also when i go to launch just the game without bootloader nothing happens. Anybody having the same issue or have any idea how to fix this?

Did you try running the game with the safe settings?
Run Bootloader, click Configure, click Safe Settings, click Write CFG.
Now try to start the game.

What OS are you using?
Did you install to a non system folder (C:\Games\FF7)?

Installing the game to a system folder like .\Program Files (x86)\ or .\Program Files\ or .\Desktop\ can cause issues with DEP/UAC.
Instead, install the game to a non system folder such as .\Games\FF7\ to avoid problems.

You may want to at some point, DJ0224, to make a folder called "Games" on your Local C Drive. Inside the folder called "Games," make a folder called "FF7." You can either relocate all your files to "FF7" from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Squaresoft\Final Fantasy VII\" to "C:\Games\FF7\," but only if you are an expert at doing a reconfiguration of the different Registration Keys for the different .EXE files in the registry. Or you can do a complete new install to "C:\Games\FF7\," and then transfer certain files that you wanted from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Squaresoft\Final Fantasy VII\." I feel your pain for having to wait for the Bootleg to install, but remember, people like PitBrat and other have done you a Huge favor of making this Configurator, and they are not charging you a dime! So the wait is totally worth every second :-D

In the future, when you have a problem with the Bootleg Configurator by PitBrat, you can either leave a reply at the following web page:

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12008.0

or start a new topic at the Troubleshooting web page:

I know it can be tedious, but please read the rules when you get a chance. :-)

Just got done re-running everything. Re-installed into C:/games and kept my mods in the same place. Tried to run from bootloader but still getting the same exact message. Before i ran bootloader again i re-installed the game and tested it and it ran fine. Now it doesn't work at all. Any ideas?

Run the game in a window.
In Bootloader, under Configure untick Fullscreen.
Lower the resolution to something like 1280x960.
Keep the internal resolution at 640x480.

Post your APP.LOG file.
What video card are you using?

The game isn't running in OpenGL.
The OpenGL driver isn't installed correctly.
Run FF7Config.exe as administrator and in the Graphics tab select Custom Driver for the Renderer.

When you ran Bootleg, did you have all the necessary mods?
Where any mods in the list displayed in red?

Custom driver is selected under ff7config.exe, and there are no mods listed in red. I actually just played for a good ten minutes. Battles were working fine but it crashed at a random encounter.

Was the file ff7_opengl-0.7.11b.zip present in your mods folder when you installed Bootleg?

Is the file ff7_opengl.fgd present in the game folder?

Somehow the OpenGL driver isn't installed.
You may have to install it manually.

Yes the ff7_opengl-0.7.11b.zip file was in my mods folder and the file ff7_opengl.fgd is in my game folder. Should i Try running bootleg over again? And if i do should i un-install and re-install the game or just run bootleg as is?

Hopefully you can fix this issue without reinstalling Bootleg.
When you run FF7Config.exe as administrator and go to the Graphics tab, what does it say undery Display?
Are there multiple entries in the list under Display?
If so, select your Radeon card from the list.

Under the graphics tab it says primary display driver. I have switchable graphics. I can switch between Intel HD 3000 and my radeon graphics. But i am currently on my radeon graphics.

You know another problem i noticed is it doesnt seem like the field textures loaded. That and on the new gui the text overlaps each other. like the letter overlap on another. Will changing options in bootleg change the game settings for me or do i actually need to change the settings and run the entire program again for mods to change? And would i need to un-install the game and re-install it or just run bootleg with the current install?

The OpenGL driver isn't installed.  Therefore the new textures aren't loading.
Set your graphics driver to Radeon Graphics.
Make sure the Renderer is Custom.

You have to load FF7Config.exe as administrator by right clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator.
Otherwise the registry won't update.

If you decide to reinstall Bootleg, you'll first need to reinstall FF7 to a folder such as C:\Games\Final Fantasy VII\

The garphics driver is set to my primary card which is currently my radeon card. The renderer is set to custom. I wonder why the opengl driver did not install though. I currently have FF7 installed to C:/Games. I am rerunning bootleg and if it doesn't work i will wipe everything installed and start over. It didnt take THAT long lol. And it is a nice tool to have. I was thinking when i last installed it i may have had my graphics set to intel HD 3000. Would that affect it if i was under a different graphics card when i installed?

Okay i redid the entire bootleg process and the game is running perfect. All of my mods are in place, except the field textures. My character models are all correct and the battle scenes all have updated textures, but when i am running in the field it looks like the original textures. They are very blurry. Any ideas?

What field texture option did you select?
Did you have all the necessary Bootleg mods in the mods folder?

The field texture improvements are subtle.  They aren't completely new textures.
They are enhanced versions of the original textures.
Not every field scene is modified.  A few scenes still use the original textures.
For the most complete field texture overhaul, use either the Bootleg or FacePalmer option.
