FF8 - Save File Not Loading
« on: 2013-08-14 02:33:54 »
Hey guys! First time posting here and it's because I have a issue!!!

I am playing FF8 like it says in the subject, and I have about, 10 hours of gameplay into it.

So I went to play it today and when I went to load my game, it said there were no save files. I found that quite hard to believe because I was just playing last night. I open and closed the game a few times and it was the same problem. I decided to just make a new file with Hyne and set the progression to where I was. When starting Hyne, I come to find out that my save file is actually still there. For some reason when I got into my save folder it shows that it is empty, but when I open up an editor, I can see it just fine.

Can any of you help me with trying to figure out why my game isn't finding my save file?

Windows 7 eh? It sounds like a virtual store issue (whatever it's called). I don't have FF8 installed right now, but I think you can find your save file somewhere in C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\ (this last folder will be hidden, but it's there). IIRC it will be in the Local folder, and either Eidos Interactive or Square Soft, Inc (my memory doesn't serve me well). If you search in there you might find it.

Alright thank you for your help. I just searched for save01 and found it and placed it into my slot1 save folder.  Do you have any idea why it didn't save to my save folder in the first place?

It needs to run in admin mode. That way the game will save and load from the same directory. Win7 is quick to redirect file writing, but not so good on the reading.

Or to install the whole game outside a system folder... :-D

I already have it so it always runs in admin and I moved it into my system's folder because installation wasn't working at first. I'm sure I could probably move it to my desktop now that it's up and running.
