FF7 Music Periodically Fails
« on: 2013-08-21 00:46:47 »
Why does the music seem to just randomly fail for no reason, when I haven't touched a single thing that would effect it. I've rerun bootleg 3 times, using different music options, and also tried 3 re installations of the game (and a separate bootleg run for each one) nothing seems to work. This has happened before and I haven't figured out why, it's literally like it works great, I turn my computer on the next day and it's inexplicably broken. The only thing I see is the ERROR: could not open file S:\Games\Final Fantasy VII\FF7\ff7input.cfg. I found it in the users file for some reason, but copying it in does nothing other than screw up my Pinnacle game profile set up. And if it's a necessary file it's weird it's not already in my games installation file. The error ff7 music gives me is nothing but 0's too, about eight of them or so.

I fixed this by messing around with different plugins. I use in_mad.dll and out-wave.dll and it hasn't happened since.

Ok cool thanks CNH. I remember fiddling with that before but I forget where. I can just change that in the FF7MUSIC.ini though right?

Tried changing it in the FF7MUSIC.ini, didn't make a difference.

Yes, it comes with all the plugins already.

Yes, it comes with all the plugins already.

I'll double check it and try again than. I tried that and it was unchanged.

~There's one in the ff7music file and another in the Ficedula. Changing the plugins in both didn't fix it. Last time this happened I some how fixed it by repeatedly reinstalling and running bootleg...which I honestly don't have time to do again.

Well, on my end under configuration for in_mad.dll I have 32 bit padded output and a large buffer. Output has no options except volume. The one in the Ficedula folder is the correct one btw.

Also, ff7input.cfg has nothing to do with music. That's where your keyboard/controller config is saved.

There's apparently three FF7MUSIC.ini. There's ff7\Ficedula, and ff7\ff7music\Ficedula. I'll try them both at this point.

I don't see that, it's in the FF7MUSIC.ini?

Nonono, you don't have to directly edit the .ini. Just start FF7Music, go to configure, and do it all from there. The correct one is in the same folder as FF7Music.exe.  (FF7/Ficedula)

Crap I forget there are tabs when you enlarge ff7music. Tried in_mad.dll, first time no errors but there wasn't any music. Trying to figure it out and it keeps giving me similar errors to this now:

This thing really doesn't like me.

Well that's what I use. Try in_vgmstream.dll. IIRC that works correctly as well. Perhaps you screwed it up while messing with the .ini? Not accusing you of anything of course.

Nah I made a copy of it first so I'm using the original. Something's screwed up, just not sure how I managed this when I didn't do anything. Thanks anyway, I'll just keeping playing with it and post what finally fixes it.

I think that's the one it usually uses, but something seems wrong with it. I remember adjusting something that deals with the sound or something somewhere that also has a chocobo sound as a test. I think I fixed this there once, I just don't remember which application that is.

~Nope doesn't seem to be FF7Config.exe.

OK. So I have no idea what causes this, but here's the fix for it. When your game turns to crap and you need to reinstall, apparently deleting the games install directory isn't enough, actually run the uninstall application. Otherwise it keeps doing the same damn thing and you feel like a jackass.

Well, I fixed it by using the MAD input plugin but if that doesn't work, I guess you have to reinstall it.

Most frustrating issue I've come across modding this game. Everything else has been pretty easier to fix and work out, but when the music stops working it all goes to hell.

Maybe the MAD plugin is incompatible with something else you installed. But then again Bootleg probably would have ironed it out.

Connecting or disconnecting an audio device can cause problems. Are you using a device with HDMI audio?

Yup, my graphics card uses an hdmi to my tv. I don't unplug it or change any of the settings though.

I use HDMI to my T.V. also, but I play with a surround headset and I don't have the problem unless I use the default input plugin.
