A Couple Quick Questions

From what I've read in the fourms it sounds like the remake project is going to be written by the remake team, but still use the data files from the original game? Correct me if I'm wrong, please.  

I used to read this fourm, but kind of busy the last year with school.  But now I've taken an interest in programing.  I'm trying to write a program to convert from the .p models to some other format.  I know there are already some written that do that.  I've read the descriptions of the .p files from Ficedula, Alhexx, and Mirex.  Thanks to them, but they seem to be written a while ago, especially Mirex's.  I was wondering what progress has been made, and if there is a pretty recent description I can read?

Finally, I was wondering what compilers you guys use?
I was wondering becuase I wrote a simple "Hello World" program and compiled it with gcc under Windows and the exe was 98k.  Even worse I did it in C++, and compiled with gpp and the file swelled to almost 1.5 Megs.

Fice used Delphi, Alhexx uses Visual Basic (But he's getting into VC++), and I don't know what Mirex uses off-hand...

How can I say this nicely... We have converters. Why make another one? Sure, making one yourself would be fun and give you a great amount of self-satisfaction, but unless it includes something the others don't, there's no real reason to make another one, right?

What I would like to see is something that will convert FF7 skeletons and animations to and from Lightwave. THAT would be something both useful and fun! If it converted the .p files too, that would be nice, but just make sure you can add the vector colors!

Sorry if I seemed to come down real hard. I just wanted to point out certain things.

IIRC, Mirex uses C / C++.

My P description is a little old, but i have no newer infos... only that 'small model' are probably 'normals'; but i think that Alhexx was doing some research recently.
Yes Im using C++/VC++
"Hello world" for windows can be done with VC++ to 60kb. When you choose to create 'Release version' (In debug it has 200k). But enough of adverts, M$ sucks :)

Yes, I will. But until now, everything's just a suspicion. And b'cause of my job, I don't have much time now. And when I have some free time, my friends are calling for me... so I think all of you will have be a bit more patient, since I cannot work on the FF stuff at the moment. Perhaps next week ... but dunno.

what progress has been made?
on file types, memory registers, patches, etc
im so out of date with this stuff (as usual) and its about time i update my ff7 site with some FF7 info :P

Well, I did (a while ago) make some progress on the field backgrounds. You've seen the benefits of that to some extent ... the animated, transparent backgrounds in the Remake engine? ;)

I suppose I could make a tool to demonstrate that...

I should really release another Alpha ... that works ... except I don't like releasing things without adding hosts of new features first ;)

As for the progress: I should be able to view textures on all FF7 .p model now ... however, that's still not for sure...

Hey, the Remake Engine doesn't have *that* many bugs ... it really needs more features! Like, um, a battle system ... the world map ... those kinds of features ;)

Anyway ... I've updated the field background code in LGP Tools to the same code that the Remake uses, so it can display transparencies and animations. I'll probably release it in the next day or so, once I've finished fixing a few small bugs from the last version...

Well, an update of sorts; go to http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~csuzs/lgptools155.zip to get the latest version of LGP Tools ;) With, as promised, much better field background viewing.

I've also got a confirmed date for the server my site is on being upgraded ... it's today. So my site may be down today and tomorrow - but HOPEFULLY once that's over I can put it back up to a 'recent' version with everything on it ;)
