FF8 save data lost.

I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this? I started the game and wanted to load but the game said no saves. I checked the folder "Final Fantasy VIII steam" and the save files are literally gone, like they were never there in the first place.

I had "only" played for about five hours, so it isn't too hard to redo but still.

This sounds like a problem with their cloud save system. I usually keep cloud saving disabled, because it's really broken. You're better off manually setting up your save folder to sync in dropbox or something.

I guess it's something like that. I rather just play offline anyways.

Another question though, say this happens again and I've backed up my save slots somewhere else, is it just copy and paste back and it'll work? Maybe if somebody have tried this.

Yeah, it's just copy and paste. There should be a metadata file (can't remember the name) in the same folder. It is imperative that you copy this with your saves, as it keeps track of what's newest and prevents it from being overwritten by older cloud saves.

where are you saves located?

the file is metadata.xml should be with your saves.

I see, that was just for future referencing. Mine are located at the my documents folder in the FF8 steam folder. And as I see now there are also a XML file called "metadata" so that should be it.

I noticed though, that when my problem occurred I closed the program down with the cross (i play in windowed mode) so now I just stick with clicking esc and turn it off "correctly" instead. That may have caused the problem, but it's a longshot.
