In the observatory, the movie begins to play, but then cuts back to the game, and just freezes then, the music still going but not progressing forward. I have dual boot XP and 98, and it occurs on both OS's, and I have downloaded the patches, and have done all the steps specified by Eidos, to no avail. I tried the WinXP patch I found on this forum, but it wouldn't install, saying that I didn't have FF7 installed on my computer, but I'm not sure if that would have helped me anyway. I was wondering if anyone knew of something I could do to tweak the actual game file to make it skip that movie file, or if anyone has any enlightenment about how I can solve this problem. I am running it with software rendering, so that's not the problem, but I do have DirectX 8.1a installed. If anyone could help me out, I will shamelessly love you. Thanks!

Bad CD?  Try another if possible?  Check for scratches?

Try it in softwaremode first.....the small window version.

You could try copying the movies into your harddrive, and change the regedit for the game so it looks into the harddrive for the movies, and the substitute the nonworking movie for one that works. I think it's boogedown, or something that plays next. I can't check until I get on my home PC.

Instructions on how to do this are somewhere in the Eidos FF7 FAQ pages.....

Last resort would be to get someone to play thru for u.

I don't believe it's a bad CD, I don't really see any scratches, but one really can't be positive. I am running it Software Rendering, and have tried the solutions Eidos has given me, including copying the movies to my hard drive. Perhaps one of the movies on the CD itself is corrupt? Is there anywhere I could download boogstar.avi?
Thanks once again for the replies!

Well, did you try replacing the bad .avi with another .avi?

Of course you can only do this if the movies are playing off your harddrive, and you must edit the windows registory for it to look on you harddrive instead of the Cdrom.

Are you sure it's boogstar? Does it work okay when you doubleclick on it?
there's
boogdemo
boogdown
boogup
boogstar.

See if those play okay with regular mediaplayer.

Wait.  Why not try the boogdown.avi from another disc?  Isn't that one on all 3, and if that's the case, then I'm pretty sure boogdown.avi isn't corrupted on all 3 discs.
