ok is it cool to give a progress report guys?
if it aint just delete this post...
-----

ok its like this
we almost have the feild file format DECODED,
we can control fights, turn them on and off at will change the encouter rate, set WHICH people to fight and when!
Ficedula has decided we should go about making our own frontend to this project, so he is coming up with an engine very quickly, battles menus u name it hes covering it.
plot wise we are pretty concrete.
-----
thats the status updat for today please join us again next week

Almost have the field file format decoded? That's news to me...

We can do all you said ... but we still can't edit the three most important parts of it: 3d layer, background and scripts. Though we *are* making progress.

No. We know which section controls the position of the 3d camera but not how to alter it.

Quote
backgrounds are a tuffy

Um, is that an english word? Is a tuffy a type of cake or something?  :-?

Aha! nvm, figured it out.

Finding the section and editing it are two different things ... unfortunately ...

Actually tuffy you hear in The USA sometimes .. yeah its a Queer word.. but you know what you never hear.. the word Queer.. cuz its even more scarce.. probably because of the relationship to being homosexual.. and the people in most places are like Homophobic. i think its kinda funny.. just thought i would tell ya  :)

I'm a MIDI composer on the Legacy team now, you've already had a sample of my work. I've written a few songs for them, some of which I havent showed them yet, but check my sample out if you like at  http://www.legacy-ovwp.org" TARGET=_blank>The OVWP Project . I've also learnt how to use soundfonts now and how to combine them with my MIDI to make a great sounding MP3. So, do you need any music yet?

My initial thought would be, we don't NEED new music - after all, the original FF7 music was pretty good and we'll definitely reuse that - but if you're willing to provide new music, we should certainly consider using it. *Some* new and some old music could work well.

Skillster: Think we should put this to a vote in Remake?

Even though my vote may not count I vote for the use of some of Eerrrrs music in the remake. It would be sweet if we can have a few extra tracks in there no? Maybe even remix the battle music and the victory music. That would be good.

No, just post some of eerrr's music, and let everyone decide

a) Do we want original music?
b) If so, shall we authorise eerrr?

We can always get more people ... there's no problem having too many composers! Music isn't the biggest part of the remake.

Do a mix, but only if it is appropriate.  For example, if there is a scene that is heavily remeniscent of the original game, then use the music that scene had in it.  If eerrrr's music is really good, and in the vein of FF,  put that in some of the new scenes.  It'll work great.

EDIT:
BTW, eerrrr, is there a good freeware music editing program I can download?  I've always wanted to mess around with that stuff.  Thx.

I'm also a MIDI composer. I think I sent you an example once. Well, I can't make MP3's though.

MMiller8: I use Evolution Audio Lite, I've forgotten the address so just search for it on Google.

mr: Being able to make MP3 isnt at all important. I just do it by merging my MIDI with a soundfont, then I upload it to the internet so people can hear what it would sound like in the game.

I know that right now music isnt that important. But once you get most things sorted then yeah it would be great to write some remixes. For example, like MMiller8 said, you might use an old song on a certain scene. But the atmosphere might then change, so you'd need the same tune but made slightly faster and heavier or softer.

Hmm...
Some how I missed this topic...

Honestly, Skillster, I'm far from decoding the field file format. There's still loads of work to do on it. Don't worry, I'm still working on it. We should be making progress soon as long as people can help me test stuff that consume too much time.

Actually, about composing the music, we might not need so many people in such early stages since there's no objective to compose for!  :)
