The results don't count because you're using a screwy ATI card.

It seems to me that the drivers actually hold the hardware back...It's not only bug problems, it's the lack of optimization.

nVidia makes decent to very good boards with good drivers.
ATI does the same, with crappy drivers.
And Matrox is the space between.
...That is, until the GeFX comes out.

Amen.

Anyway, to answer your main question, DX and OpenGL aren't that far apart in speed. It's mostly a driver issue, however some architectures seem to run a bit better on OpenGL.

Well, ATI used to make crap drivers ... but the latest Catalyst driver sets have been fine. No bugs at all, AFAIK ... and, of course, the best card out now is a Radeon, so NVidia's not looking as dominant as they used to ;)  We'll have to actually see the GeFX on sale before making any judgements about it...

voodoo3 is a great board with great drivers....
too bad 3dfx had to go and die....

(and i think opengl is better, cause its faster)

Hey, hey, man, you're not reading what I said to you at the bottom of this thread.  Please don't continue to bring back topics that haven't had any posts in them for a while.
