i've read all the comments about the 'canyon problem' where the movie keeps hanging. i've tried every option you mentioned, but they all didn't work. someonesaid that probably the only other way to go pass the movie scene is to let someone play for you through the movie scene. now i wonder if any of you guys is so kind to play through the scene and then save at a point after the cutscene. i will send you my savegame. i've seen that it's not really big, 57 kb.

hi, i already use software mode!

the part i mean is where red VIII 's grampa asks cloud and friends to come to his lab to go watch the planets he made...they're watching stars....during that movie it freezes...
so if you could play through the cutscene i'd be very thankfull! i've uploaded my savefile to you. save00 it's called..

ah, sumimasen, maybe i was a little unclear about this, but the part i cannot get through is where they're already in bugen's lab and bugen is showing the planets model he made... aeris says: 'wow, shooting star' and then the movie freezes... i uploaded my savefile again to you...

One thing to check would be....

...find that movie on your FF7 CD.  Try playing it, or copying it to your hard drive.  It's possible that your CD is scratched and the game is crashing during the movie because of this.

I've got the same problem.   I used the Patch to get past the chocobo races, but with the cosmo canyon scene, it just locks.

I've got the movies on my hdd, I've tried all 3 different software rendering, I've tried lowering the hardware acceleration, updated video drivers (although I don't believe it that since it happens after the movie), tried reinstalling codecs for multimedia.

When it crashes, it crashes right after the movie when it switches back to the regular game play.  It doesn't happen during the cgi scene.  I'm beginning to wonder if it's another WinXP/Win2k issue involving the game.  I've gone back to the unpatched version and again the same thing.

[edit]  I finially got tired of trying to figure it out so I used a character editor from ficedula website to put them into the debug room.  After that, I was able to get to the scene with Red's father.


Also, there seems to be the exact same problem with the date scene in the gold saucer.  Didn't matter who you dated.
