Long time no see ;)

Well, I'm back now. Long story, but essentially I've been absolutely snowed under with work at university for the past month or so - combination of normal uni work, third year project (more or less like a programming dissertation) and job applications/interviews conspired to kill pretty much most of my free time, and society work at uni took up the rest.
Not to suggest that I don't have work *now* or anything - I have this nice little 15,000 word report I have to write on the project - but at least now I have 5 weeks more-or-less off to actually do it in.

I know some of you have been wanting to get hold of my programs ( ;) ) so my site is now up at:

http://www.warwickcompsoc.co.uk/~ficedula/f2k3/

That's the Computing Society server (well, one of them) at uni, so it should be pretty reliable, fast, and so on. I don't however have much disk space on it, so only the most recent version of every program is available for download. That should be enough for most people, of course. (more on this in the appropriate thread elsewhere...)

If anybody's posted stuff needing my attention, I *have* read most of the backlog over the past month, although not all, so I'll try and reply to anything still relevant. Get in touch if I've missed something though ;)  Same applies to email - if you've sent me something and I've not replied, try again (perhaps with a different email; my spamfilters can be a bit enthusiastic).

Quick question;  Where's the new "Zangan" program I've been hearing about?

Must've got left out (I think I probably never uploaded it to the old site 'officially'). It's up there now.

Word.

Suggestions;  If it's possible to make the Mouse the method of moving the perspective around?  Also, the ability to move backwards, as well as forwards?

Also, I've compliled a pretty accurate list of which file is what battleground, if that'd be helpful at all.

OK, Zangan v1.11 uploaded with the ability to rotate the camera around using the mouse.

Obviously I can give the ability to move backwards, but I'm unsure about how to 'bind' it - the left button is move forwards, the right is rotate/look around, so I've kind of run out of buttons there ;)  Next version can have it in if people agree on a suggestion of how to do it.

ShinRa Inc: Yes, I could put that list into the program easily; send it to me and I'll do so. Cheers.

Um... Now that you've got it mouse contorlled, which is much better, btw, nice thought Shinra... but... Before, holding the Left mouse button moved you forward in the direction you were facing... now, it seems it fails to move you on one axis. It won't go up or down. I'm guessing this is an error... I just figured I'd make sure it became apparent soon.

Well, the mouse control doesn't do anything that couldn't be done before - it just lets you access the facing using a mouse-dragging interface (in fact, you can even see the sliders moving as you drag the mouse around). You couldn't move up or down in the older versions, and you still can't.

It was kind of a design decision; the levels are really only meant to be viewed from one location - the centre. From other places, they can look really silly. However, moving about around the floor doesn't make *too* much difference ... moving up-and-down tended to make it really obvious where things go wrong ;)

I could add it in, of course, I just didn't for that reason. If people *want* it of course, I'll put it in.

Ah, I guess I'm wrong. *shrugs* Personally, I'd like to be able to move up and down, but that's just me. I can see why you wouldn't have that quite easily. I guess we'll see what "the people" want, eh?

OK, new version uploaded. Main change is the incorporation of Shinra Inc's list of names into the program.

You can also move up/down using the A/Z keys; as I mentioned, don't be surprised if Things Look Wrong from other places, tho ;)
