Uploading Profile Avatar

Everytime i upload a profile avatar it just keeps saying "The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
The avatar you have selected is either too large or not an avatar."

I tried 100x100 ,50x50 nothing will accept it. Not sure whats going on
