FFVIII FMV Crash >.<

I'm having a problem with Disc 3 (In space, right before the Lunar Cry FMV and after Rinoa gets posessed) during the "Look at the moon!"  FMV where the monsters are all dropped down onto the planet in that hideous looking pink blob.

What happens is the FMV pauses, then goes on, and then it starts skipping more frequently until the music freezes on a note (and continues playing it) and then the FMV freezes, and I'm crashed to desktop.

I've looked through the forums to try and find a solution, and I've tried the following :
Burning the CD onto another disc - (It burned okay, but then the FMV still wouldn't work)
Getting it repaired - Meh..still didn't work.

I was wondering if anybody could help me with this.  Is there a website that has save files for download?  Or could someone play me past that part (I'll send the save before I get stuck)

Anything would help, and any suggestions would be great!

Thanks ^_^

Try switching to low-res movies in the config program for this part.

You might also try the offocial 1.2 patch.

It's even worse on low res O.o    When I'm playing high res, it stops at the pink gel blob part, but on low res, it stops after about 3 seconds...the first view of the planet.

Edit : What does the patch do?  And is it on Square's website?  **is hunting**

Hmm, only place I can usually find the patch is File Planet (*shudder*).  Has some fixes.

Movie crashes are usually what you get from playing with a defective disc.  Look at it and see if you can find any scratches or cuts.

Worst case, you can send someone the save file to play past that part for you.

Aah...  :isee:   There is in fact a couple of minor scratches on the disc that I'm already aware of.  I had suspected that this was the problem, but the repair didn't fix it.  So... well, I don't really know.

I'll go hunt down the patch...do you know what it's called or a link?

EDIT : *stares in horror*  Wait...a pay site?!  You're kidding!  Is there any other way?  :o

File Planet is a pay site, but you can download for free if you want to wait in line.  Just look for the wait-in-line servers.

I'll post it on my web site this evening.

Thanks ^_^  I'll go and..er..get in line or something if I can find one.  Leave a message when you get it posted!  (And thanks  :D)

Edit : Ah..well..I can't seem to find a server where I can 'wait in line'.  Also, I read the description (including more information) about what this patch does, and none of it seems related to my problem.  Does it also fix things that aren't listed?

http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/patch.html
I uploaded the patches to the FFSF patch page (the patches that used to be there were for the UK version I think).

If you have a GeForce card, download the GeForce patch, and if you don't, download the other one.

Determining what your graphics card is

Windows 95/98/ME:
 - Right-click on "My Computer" and go to Properties.
 - Click on the "Device Manager" tab.
 - Skip down to below the 2000/XP section.

Windows 2000/XP:
 - Right-click on "My Computer" and go to Properties.
 - Click on the "Hardware" tab.
 - Click on the "Device Manager" button.

Both OS's:
 - In the Device Manager, hit the "+" next to "Display Adapters."
 - There's your graphics card!

If its a GeForce card (i.e., GeForce2 MX 400, GeForce3 Ti 200, etc.), download the GeForce patch.

Note that I am not guaranteeing that this will fix it - it sounds like a messed up CD to me.  I can play past that part for you but not 'til this weekend.

Alright, thanks a lot!  That's incredibly helpful.

So - I don't have a GeForce card, I'll download the non-gf card file.  I'll try that to see if it works (hopefully it does -.-), and post an update later.

Thanks for all the help

**swears profusely**

I had a feeling that wouldn't work.  And it didn't, so I guess I'm screwed again >.<

Would someone be willing to please play past that part for me?  I would be eternally grateful.. :)

What I Need :
I'm in the Lunar Base Medical Room, Rinoa's already gone whack, and I've already got all the good cards up there (eheheh), all I need is to go up those stairs and view the Lunar Cry FMV, and then I believe that's it.  The next save point after that would be great O.o  (Was it on the Ragnarok?  Because I can't seem to remember all that well...)

If anyone could help me, I can e-mail the save file or upload it somewhere..   :-?

There it is, then.    :z

If anybody has a few extra minutes to do this for me, that would be great..

All I need is to go up the stairs on the space ship, view the FMV, and then find the next save point and that's it.

So if anyone can, send me an e-mail or a private message to let me know..  thanks =)

I'll try to get pass that part as soon as I have the save file...

EDIT - Also, put an appropriate subject for the email (Something like "From Qhimm's forums") because I always delete away mails from unknown people.

First off, thank you so very much FFTactics_Boy!  (who helped me get past the space FMV's..two of them o.o)

Now I think there's just something wrong with all the FMV's that last more than about two seconds on that disc.  *grovels*  Does anyone mind rescuing Rinoa for me at the Sorceress Memorial?  *pleads*

I'm so sorry to be such a pain in the arse about this, but after spending so much time leveling and getting all of the last GF's, I'm just itching to progress the storyline a leeetle bit more.

If anyone would be willing to do this for me, please please e-mail me at : [email protected]

Or just post here!

Thanks again O.o;;
