Living in the past

Hi everyone, this is my first day on this forum.
Anyway, what I wanted to speak about is the new squaresoft games and most of all the new FF games.

I am a little interested in the new FF games, what are they like?
Is it worth getting a PS2 just to be able to play FF X for an example?
The most recent squaresoft game I played was FF8, so I guess you could say I am a little bit out of date :P

I mainly own old squaresoft games like: Secret of mana, Chrono trigger, Final Fantasy 1,4,5,6 (as you might have guessed I collect retro games) and of course I own Final Fantasy 7 and 8 to my PC :)

If not just for FFX, then for Xenosaga, .hack, Dark Cloud 2, Kingdom Hearts Suikoden III and the rest.

FFX is a good excuse for buying a PS2. I just swapped my Xbox with a friend for a while so I could play it since little else on the PS2 interests me.

FFX is one of my favourite FFs, probably a bit below FFVII. It has great graphics, a great storyline, and the leveling up system's pretty good (although still slow). In my opinion anyway, many people think the opposite.  The soundtrack's pretty good too, better than 8 and 9's IMO.

Our views probably differ greatly though, since I don't really like the retro FFs. FFX is very un-retro, what with the addition of speech, it being in full 3D, etc.

I suggest you try the game before splashing out on a PS2 for it, or maybe you could do what I did and borrow one for a while.

And if you must buy a PS2, your decision will likely be aided by the fact that they were dropped to a $179 price-tag at E3! ;) :P

I was a PC'er and went out to get a PS2....and I have to say, the PS2 does have a lot of games.... and it is worth it....

Add Star Ocean 2 to that list.
And Legend of Dragoon isn't bad either.

And don't forget about Kingdom Hearts....
Crono Cross
Threads of Fate

There are other I'm planning on getting, later.
FFX-2
Xenosaga series
Tsugunai
Legaia 2
ICO
Onimusha
Tenchu
1000 arms
Dragon Warrior VII
and maybe the .hack series once it gets in the 15 dollar range.

There are plenty of excuses

Something that you might need to know, you need a PSXone memory card to save PSX games. PS2 memory cards wont work with PSX games.
