SB Live Value is good enough....guess there under 20 dollars. Don't know what country your in......

Newegg has it for 33 dollars, with 5.1 Surround Sound. I wonder if VIA has fix their problem with their AMD boards not getting along with "live!" card?

I have a VIA chipset on an AMD platform with a SBLive!, and I remember there being some SoundBlaster BIOS updates for my board, but everything is working fine.

SoundBlaster Live! Value, IIRC, supports 4 speakers and other things such as soundfonts, EAX.  There is also the SoundBlaster Live! 5.1, which supports a 5.1 speaker system.  Better still is the SoundBlaster Audigy (24-bit audio and built-in Firewire port) and SoundBlaster Audigy 2 (supports up to 6.1).

SB Audigy 2 Platinum version is pretty cool, it comes with a cool thing that goes in a 5 1/4-inch bay in your case that has all kinds of inputs and stuff on it.  And a remote that I guess you can use in Creative's software and other multimedia software.

...See?

Here's some quick prices.

SB Live! Value = $23
SB Live! 5.1 = $30
SB Audigy = $56
SB Audigy 2 = $70
SB Audigy 2 Platinum = $160

Honestly, SB Live! Value should be the fanciest sound card that most people need, unless you want the million extra connectors or the huge speaker system support.  You can buy it here.  I dunno where you are, and I dunno if that place ships out of the US.

the audigy, audigy 2, and audigy 2 platinum are unnecessary and too rich for my blood.

the sound blaster live 5.1 is perfect.

where do i order this ? *

what is the cheapest price? *

* i need it delivered to new york city, u.s.a.

Go here, search for "Sound Blaster," and you should find a SB Live! 5.1 for $29.50 and free shipping.

Hmm, does anyone have any recommendations for me? I need a card with a bit of memory for soundfonts, like up to 100MB. I checked those and they only have around 10MB at most, and I'm getting sick of writing with the MS soundfont, then using Audio Compositor to make sure it all sounds okay.

Any ideas? Of course, the cheaper the better. :D

?

You seem to be awfully bossy, needing to know this and that. What do you think this board is, Pricewatch for lazy?

How about trying to find out yourself? It's not like Google has actually ever bitten anyone.

Or even reading what has been posted, Aaron (and Threesixty) pointed out where you can get Live! 5.1, and how much it will cost you.

Capital letters are also fairly harmless to use, but posts that have them are much nicer to read.

Heh, well you can go shopping for yourself at www.pricewatch.com then. You should be able to find the SBLive! you are looking for there (use the search feature). Have fun.

well
if your looking for soundfont memory, any sb live will do.
but my uncle has a pci512, and it can even store soundfont data into ram, so im not sure if every pc512 cards can do that or not. but unless you have certain drivers or programs, you can only load soundfonts into half of the memory your ram has. unless you use mega font or some other crap.
so if you want to laod a 128mb soundfont, you will need at lease 256mb of ram.

before you go buying this stuff, check this out first
http://www.livesynth.com/lsdoc.html

there might be others like it that work with windows in general, instead of just in sonar.

Elitist1: Well, Jari happens to have a point. And since he's a mod, his point carries more weight than yours. Expecting others to do the work you should do yourself is a bad habit, and even though there happens to be helpful people on these forums, you're quickly using up your share of favours.

The original question about which card would be good for FF7 & FF8 was answered within a few replies, the rest is just the result of laziness on your behalf. And since even your most demanding requests have already been met, I see no reason to keep this topic open in the General forum. Topic closed.
