Soundfont question!
« on: 2003-07-16 19:46:57 »
Hi!

I own a SB Live! 5.1 sound card. However, I hate the software that Creative distribute with their hardware. Therefore, I have Windows XP native drivers to control my sound card.

I was wondering if there is a way to change my soundfonts, especially for Final Fantasy VII on the PC, as I want to hear 'A One-Winged Angel' with lyrics! Can anyone help me?

And yes, I can edit registry values!  :D

I can help you. Take the PM I am about to send you, and use the link contained to use to help you be able to listen to the songs in windows xp the way they are supposed to sound with soundfonts. Even OWA.

jeez people, we gotta make a sticky with this..

I don't think you can load SF2 soundfonts with the XP native software.  I don't like the software distributed with the cards either, but you can download the latest drivers from Creative's web site - it installs AudioHQ, which is a control panel you can go to, among other things, load sound fonts.

From my personal experience I would say that Creative's drivers are better than XP native drivers.

I am also using Live! 5.1 (Digital) and I thought there's an option for you to select/deselect which components you want/do not want to install? I chose 'Install drivers only' and that worked for me.... it wasn't until Rubicant told me to test out his soundfont that I actually installed AudioHQ...  :P

Hi!

I downloaded the driver update from the SoundBlaster website, which was about 20Mb. I then backed it up onto CD using the XP built-in CD burner. When the time came to format my PC because my brother can't stop messing it up, I went to install them.

Guess what... IT WAS CORRUPTED! I still have a 56k modem, and it took me the best of 2 hours to get! I HATE MICROSOFT!  :x

I hate CRC errors!

Oh, yeah. Well done Rubicant! That file was great! Thanks for sending me the link to it!  :D
