Sam's FF8 DLS is pretty good across the board, not just for FF8.

Thanks! Anyone else have any suggestions.
On a side note, anyone here know how to edit DLS files? I downloaded a DLS linked in this forum a while back but it was buggy cuz the volumes of most of the samples were way too low. It is a huge DLS (Around 90 MB) and it was called GM.DLS

Unison is pretty good General MIDI font.

If you're talking about the MIDIs from the Doom games, I think I actually played ZDoom with that font loaded once.  It sounded pretty good, as far as Doom music goes, anyway.

Personal Copy sounds great with games like doom. Its a really good all around soundfont.

Thanks for the linkage, Mofokubik....I'm currently snagging the Unison font (which is destined for some conversion to DLS....) from the site at approximately 36kb/sec, MWHAHA. :P

Oh, and if you're still looking for DLS/SF2 stuff, Smurgen, you oughtta take a closer look at the <blatant_plug_mode>Overdriven Guitar used in the Revision2 patch for FF8pc's "Original DLS"</blatant_plug_mode>, as its of the multisampled variety and VERY good for solo's....though admittedly the high notes don't sound too good.

You might also want to look for a soundfont called "Dethmetal".  Its an SF2 file, but I have managed to successfully convert a few of the instruments to DLS format...oh, and I should mention that it is a "specialized" soundfont; its not even GM compliant...its mainly built to allow someone to pull the samples out and use 'em with the assistance of another full GM (at least GM) soundfont.

Anyway...as for demos of it (as well as some evidence that a decent SF2>DLS conversion CAN be done at times), I've got an mp3 of one of the 'fonts instruments being used to play back the FF7Boss theme, particularly, the version that's used with FF7pc's XG MIDIset.

I've kinda melded that instrument with my Rev2-patched Original DLS to create an "uber" version of that DLS...why that is important, is because the XG version of the song has the guitar track being played by both Distortion and Overdrive guitars, so you may hear my other Guitar sample in there, but its not the dominant one in this case.

Ok, finished uploading!  (side note to Mirex:  Your server's gettin' pretty full.... :P)

FF7Boss -- DLS instrument Demo (141kbps VBR) (size: 2.01mb)

Might be a bit on the loud side, though.....Nice, eh? :D

-edit-
Wow, I really need to catch more of these typos and other grammatical errors before I click submit....

The Dethmetal soundfont where I got the samples from, is an SF2.  I yanked 'em out and imported them into a DLS.  In other words, its an SF2>DLS conversion.

I've never heard of those two, unless....unless that is the XG 'font one of the board members here (I forget who it was...it might have been Seraph_Sephiroth...not sure though) created in an attempt to have a soundfont that could take advantage of the better-balanced XG version of the FF7pc soundtrack.
