Petition link for Final Fantasy IX PC release...
« on: 2003-09-16 08:48:04 »
Hi!

As you all know, the PC release of Final Fantasy IX was cancelled. I found a link to a petition, with the aim being to ask Squaresoft if they will releasde Final Fantasy IX for the PC. The link is:

http://www.petitiononline.com/FF9PC/petition.html

I hope that people can spend a few seconds signing the petition, and hopefully Squaresoft will respond and finish the release of Final Fantasy IX for the PC!

Heh heh heh, I remember seeing one of thise petitiononline things for FF9PC listed here years ago.  I doubt Squaresoft will respond to it, especially this late.  Plus, it doesn't matter that much anymore, since emulators are so easy to use now you can just run FF9 on on of those.

...just spend the 30 dollars for a refurbished PS1 and spend 20 dollars for the game, and 10 dollars for the Sony memory card.

60 dollars is about what you would spend for a PC version, anyway.

and then you can play other PS1 games...such as

Xenogears
Star Ocean 2
Parasite Eve 1 & 2
Vagrant Story
Lunar 1 & 2 (hard to find)
Suikoden 1&2 (very hard to find)
Dragon Warrior VII
Breath of Fire III & IV
Crono Cross
FF Origins
FF Anthology
FF Chronicles
FF Tactics
Valkery Profile (very hard to find)

and whatever else.....

Yeah, PS1's are going extremely cheap now. If you still refuse; emulate.

Hi!

I already have a PSX, and Final Fantasy IX. I would still like to see it on the PC, though. I don't like using emulators. They're buggy, and very 'disorganised' when it comes to plug-ins. Well, that's just me being complicated again!  :D

Im affraid this is a lost cause... FFIX is history now and SquareEnix wouldn't take notice of a petition either.

FF9 was just fine. So there wasn't some fruity organization that half-assedly trains people to assassinate people which the army could've killed easier and cheaper, this whiny girl who pops out of nowhere to only whine nonstop, two losers with severe emotional and competitive problems, the fact that all you have to do to get stronger is by putting your balls in your weapon or sucking out the energy from enemies, half-assed explanation to people that have no idea what they are doing already about time travel, a game with a fairly decent story which gets ruined by shitty planning and rushed completion, a battle system where every character has a possibility of being the same damn person only with a different model (other than limit breaks), the lack of explanation and perhaps coincidence that the people responsible for taking down some biatch that no one has even heard of in the future were all in the same orphanage being bullied by the same guy who had nothing to do with taking down the biatch and mysteriously appears at the end of the game anyways just for shits and giggles, two losers (fat and skinny) that stand around laughing at everything for no reason and end up dying for it, some guy whose balls could fall off in the middle of a sentence and he would get them back with this creepy explanation of how his package was unsent in the mail by a postmaster so he gets to stay alive however long he pleases, pointless and predictable scenes, characters that are less interesting than watching a cat lick himself all day, annoying tutorials at the beginning of the game that won't go away no matter what you do, bad guys that are there but really aren't, really twisted twists where the entire perspective of the game suddenly changes and then the director of the game comes out in 3d form and says "just kidding" and leaves (also known as a red herring, which isn't neccesarily bad), places that get destroyed by the people that built it and since the place they destroyed was paying a ton of tax money the company that did it ended up losing tons of money anyways and they never fixed it, a newly made president that pops out of his helicopter then asks the main character if he wants to join with the enemy blatantly and the guy refuses so the president sends his dog after the guy who immediately gets chomped in the groin, a guy that forces himself into your team for no reason and it ends up that it's your own damn fault you let him in because awhile later you get screwed over by the same guy who was forced onto your team, FMV's basically are pre-rendered versions of the already crappy 3d models used widely in the game, and finally this 5-minute sequence where some fat guy with pointlessly long fingers pokes people and whines about some guy and his wife he met at a swinger's party and now he thinks they are trying to take away the ridiculous sphere with flashing colors he lives in.

You won't find any of that in FF9. Although in both FF8 and FF9 there are women that look like men and men that look like women, I think that that problem is just one flaw of few for FF9, and just another terrible mistake for FF8.

But should FF9 be released to pc? Hell no. Both games that were ported to PC sold terribly, and had many flaws. Have you seen all the programs that programmers and geniuses have made to change the games? The pc ports are terrible! Just get an emulator, man. There are new plug-ins coming out all the time for ePSXe. There's this wonderful software plug-in that I used for most of FF9 called P.E.O.P.S. My old video card wasn't very good for the battle transitions in that game, and I think I completed the game fair and square. I don't think some huge-assed company that just merged with their lifelong enemy, put FF1 and FF2 out on the PSX pretty much just to change one line from FF1, will even consider porting FF9 to the pc.

When I tried running FFIX on ePSXe it didn't run at all. Just got a black screen. Would that be a problem with my computer / the PAL version of FFIX. Is there a special option you have to select to get it to run? It was a while ago I tried it. Maybe I'll try it later with the new updated plugins etc.

Back when I first started using it, the PAL version of FF9 wasn't compatible with ePSXe.  It may be fixed now, though.

Just a stab in the dark, but did you apply the security removal patch? You need to rip the CDs then patch the ISOs to emulate FFIX.

Is that only for the PAL version?  I didn't have to do that...

One reason may be the bios. First time I tried to run legend of dragoon I had to use the 7502 bios for it to even start. However, when I was playing FF9, I was forced to rip directly from the originals and use an iso of the original. I couldn't get a working burned copy of the ISO I ripped because of some sort of weird security thing...as eerrrr said. Using a copy of the original, the game would start, but any fmv would completely screw it all up. This was with the NTSC version, though. I can't say I've ever played a PAL game, or even seen anything that uses PAL.

If you kneed AnY bioseesssss....PM MEEEEAAA!!!

I realize that FF8 was kinda lame.. and the whole orphan thing was equally weak, but i still dug it.. and you could say your complaint about the battle system could equte to FF7 as well.. You can customize all your people to be the same.. kinda..

We all know this is utterly pointless.. Some people Loved FF8 and some hated it.. Some people Loved FF9 some hated it.. Everyone has their reasons and they are mostly all arguable.. There were a few threads where both games got battered.. and its like religion.. only you can change your mind.. not someone else's opinion..

On to emulation.. I used the NTSC version of FF9 when i beat it.. and i just ran off of the discs.. i didnt even iso it.. The black screen can be fixed through tweaking of EPSXE.. Every game is different so its kinda complex.. Pete the guy that makes Pete's Plugins wrote an excellent starter guide for default settings for different video cards.. i recommend using that as a base and going from there..

Well Cadd, I was kind of joking around with my run-on sentence paragraph. Hardly a paragraph...

Let me break it down for you, because I wasn't just trashing on FF8:

"So there wasn't some fruity organization that half-assedly trains people to assassinate people which the army could've killed easier and cheaper" -FF8

"this whiny girl who pops out of nowhere to only whine nonstop" - FF7, FF8, and even FF9 with Garnet. Rinoa was probably the worst, though.

"two losers with severe emotional and competitive problems" - FF8, Squall and Seifer

"the fact that all you have to do to get stronger is by putting your balls in your weapon or sucking out the energy from enemies" - FF7 and FF8. Balls=materia, Sucking=Drawing

"half-assed explanation to people that have no idea what they are doing already about time travel" - FF8

"a game with a fairly decent story which gets ruined by shitty planning and rushed completion" - FF7, possibly FF8, maybe even FF9

"a battle system where every character has a possibility of being the same damn person only with a different model (other than limit breaks)" - FF7 and FF8

"the lack of explanation and perhaps coincidence that the people responsible for taking down some biatch that no one has even heard of in the future were all in the same orphanage being bullied by the same guy who had nothing to do with taking down the biatch and mysteriously appears at the end of the game anyways just for shits and giggles" - FF8. How in the world did seifer get back to balamb? He shoulda joined the party for the 4th disc.

"two losers (fat and skinny) that stand around laughing at everything for no reason and end up dying for it" - FF7, Heigegger and Scarlet

"some guy whose balls could fall off in the middle of a sentence and he would get them back with this creepy explanation of how his package was unsent in the mail by a postmaster so he gets to stay alive however long he pleases" - FFX, Seymour. Postmaster=Summoner.

"pointless and predictable scenes" - This happens in every FF game, except I wasn't expecting garnet to cut her hair short. That was a shocker. I was mainly focusing on that terrible laughing scene from FFX.

"characters that are less interesting than watching a cat lick himself all day" - FFX, Kimahri

"annoying tutorials at the beginning of the game that won't go away no matter what you do" - FF8, and this really does happen.

"bad guys that are there but really aren't" - FF7, Sephiroth

"really twisted twists where the entire perspective of the game suddenly changes and then the director of the game comes out in 3d form and says "just kidding" and leaves (also known as a red herring, which isn't neccesarily bad)" - This happens in every game, except for probably FF8. There were really no shocking revelations in that game. Things were just slowly revealed. I actually kind of liked that.

"places that get destroyed by the people that built it and since the place they destroyed was paying a ton of tax money the company that did it ended up losing tons of money anyways and they never fixed it" - FF7, sector 7

"a newly made president that pops out of his helicopter then asks the main character if he wants to join with the enemy blatantly and the guy refuses so the president sends his dog after the guy who immediately gets chomped in the groin" - FF7, doesn't exactly happen that way

"a guy that forces himself into your team for no reason and it ends up that it's your own damn fault you let him in because awhile later you get screwed over by the same guy who was forced onto your team" - FF7, cait sith

"FMV's basically are pre-rendered versions of the already crappy 3d models used widely in the game" - FF7, but only a few of the fmv's.

"and finally this 5-minute sequence where some fat guy with pointlessly long fingers pokes people and whines about some guy and his wife he met at a swinger's party and now he thinks they are trying to take away the ridiculous sphere with flashing colors he lives in." - FF8, not exactly what happened, but you get the gist of it.

First time I saw FF9 I was like "kid's game!!!!!!", and then I played it and accepted it, and tried to take it pretty seriously. But yeah...I really can't change someone's opinion with mere convincing words..it's up to them.

I'm using ff9 UK PAL version. I have both original and copy (isoed, patched, burned). The black screen is probably the security check. You can fix it by making iso and then applying the patch (search net for ppf patches). You can also use your original (or copied) cd directly. Just download Pete CDR Plugin. It can patch the cds "on-the-fly", so you won't have to make iso of it, just insert into cd rom (you still have to download correct patches for every cd, name them correctly and configure the plugin). Just don't play ff9 Pal UK with epsxe 1.6.0 - there are places it hangs on fmv (the one your party escapes from Village of Dali to Lindblum Grand Castle after beating Black Waltz #2 is the first I had problems with). And I do like ff9 more than ff8 (this is the worst in series in my opinion), but not as much as ff7. Well the best thing to play ff9 is psx. Background images look much better than on emulaturs, but when it comes to 3D (battles, world map, character) -> yuck! Better don't watch. Some time ago, when ff9 was relased, sound on emulators was total shi*. There were also many bugs in graphics. But now when you use pete's gpu plugins and Ethernal SPU plugin it kicks ass.

[Edit] I also have NTSC US FF9, but only copy already patched (you can't buy original US ver here where I live...), but the second cd is broken and I wasn't able to finish it (after the fmv with brahne summoning bahamut it just gives me error, and quits to desktop). I just can't tell if the original non patched cd will run on emu...

Eh....strange. I played FF8 a few days ago (I stopped because I got bored of it)... and you can actually skip it (Tutorials) by pressing the "Cancel" button when Quistis is about to explain all those Junctioning crap (Don't get me wrong..... I never say that I hated the junction system). Works for me....

You should also add: Bad guys that in fact aren't that bad or are not bad at all or are doing all the things they do just to realize they're not bad and it's only other people that are making them bad, but as from now love and peace.... - Caith Sith, Kuja etc. heh

And I just tested it and it works great. I fast-forwarded through the opening movie and all the other crap. It was damn funny.

Keep in mind that I was pointing things out that FF9 didn't have...although there were some minor exceptions when I finally explained it, but it really doesn't matter. In every game, final fantasy or not, some villains are really good people just following orders. But does their unethical behavior stop them from being good people? Who knows...
