FF7Music - PSF Edition
« on: 2003-10-18 21:23:32 »
Hi!

This is mainly targeted towards Aaron, but if this idea goes well, you'll all know where to go for the program.  :D

I recently contacted Ficedula about an idea to create a PSF Edition of FF7Music. I know one is on the FFSF website, but it's the original FF7Music with the PSF files included in it. Ficedula has approved of my idea for this, in an email he sent me.

I will send you the GUI to your email shortly, Aaron. It doesn't do much because it's a GUI, but it differs from the original FF7Music. I hope that you can help me on the matter in making this little project a success. I know people are asking why I didn't PM this, but the program will be for all you FF7 fans out there. I also would like to say that I am not saying that the original FF7Music is crap. This is just an idea to make life a little easier...  :D

I'm positive that you could easily find a link to the FFSF site if you just searched the forums.  In fact, there's a link in the thread right below this one ("Running FF7 in a window").  Anyway, its http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/

As for the "PSF Edition," I guess if you make a new GUI, we can use it, but I don't think its a pressing issue... it might make the program a little less confusing to use for people who don't really know what they're doing, but that's about it?

That's partly the idea...

Hi!

That's partially the idea!  :D

It can also stop multiple questions spamming 'How do I do this...' on the message board. All I need is the source code. Alternatively, if Aaron has it, maybe you want the GUI? I know it's not a 'pressing' issue, but it's an update...  :D

Does Ficedula have the source, or you?  :D

Nope I don't have the source, you'd have to get it from Ficedula.

Completed...

Hi!

I have finally completed the PSF Edition of FF7Music. It fully works now, but I don't have a CLUE where to host it. Aaron, it it possible for you to post it on the FFSF website? I'll upload it tomorrow to wherever it should go. I can email it to you, but can't upload via any FTP servers. It's slightly larger than the original FF7Music due to some newer features. It's got an updated readme.txt, too!  :D

As for everybody else, make sure you get it or i'll be so sad...  :weep:

If I have time tomorrow, I may even create a setup.exe file for it to auto-install the program to the relevant places...  :D

You can e-mail it to me and I can put it up.  There is no limit on the size of attachments I can receive.  You can make a setup.exe if you want, but I think just a plain .zip file with directions should also be distributed, because that is what some people (like me) would prefer.

Program has been sent...
Hi!

I've sent the program to Aaron via his email. It should be up when Aaron puts it on the FFSF website. There are some songs that play incorrectly, so if you know what they are when you get the software, then feel free to email me so I can correct them.  :D

I know that J-E-N-O-V-A is meant to play when the comical theme is meant to be played, but considering comical isn't used, then nobody should really care...  :D

where do tou find the psf files in the cd of ff7 ???
in the \sound directory there are only the samples...

in JENOVA's battle music, i listen to an instrument very strange, and i don't find it in the .ALL file (sample data)... i think it's a real time effect at one of the instruments... i hear ePSXe difficultly play this instrument with the plugin (the others are played normally)

They are not on the cd. You get them off the website of the person who developed the PSF format:

http://www.neillcorlett.com/psf/ - not affiliated with Square/Sony

The music for ff7pc is midi files with 4 (2 are actually used) soundfonts to have semi-accurate instruments, in case you weren't fully aware of that. The only samples in the \sound directory are the sound effect files. There are some "music" files in the \music directory, such as heartbeat and wind sounds.

No, Jenova's theme is not meant to be played there. There is actually a song in midi format called "comical" that is never heard in the game. It wasn't ripped to PSF (probably because it wasn't even on the psx version), so I put the Jenova theme there instead for shits & giggles. So either someone gets the irony of having J-E-N-O-V-A as a comical theme, or just doesn't care about it.

Hi!

After yet ANOTHER format of my PC, I found out not long ago that I didn't backup my source code for the FF7Music - PSF Edition program...  -_-

Anyway, If Aaron decided to post my update to Ficedula's program up, then you may all have to wait a while before another update to it...  :(
