Technical problem with laptop

Ok, this might not be FF related, but my laptop has been playing up recently. I was in the middle of a fight with Sephiram*Sefirosu(as i call Safer*Sephiroth)and the game...yes, froze. After about an hour of waiting, it automatically restarted the laptop. What's more, it starts the loadup screen, but then the screen goes black with the error message DISK READ ERROR
PRESS CTRL-ALT-DELETE TO RESTART.
Of course, i tried control-alt-delete, and it gave me exactly the same message. HELP!!!

Hi!

What version of Windows are you using? Try 'chkdsk' from the command line if you are using XP. I had a problem in which XP would show it's splash screen, and then it kept restarting. Amazingly, chkdsk got it working after a full hour working on it!  

Anyway, as for your problem, is this actually Windows that crashes, or FF7? If it's Windows, I suggest you grab an axe and ensure that Bill Gates will never walk again! HAHAHA!  

Anyway, do you have Windows XP or are you running another version?

That error message sounds like something you'd get from Win95/98/ME.  I would make sure its not trying to boot from a floppy or CD or something (probably not, but just to make sure, that could cause an error like this), and then (assuming it is Win95/98/ME) see if you can boot to a DOS prompt (by booting from a floppy or CD or pressing F8 at startup) and run a scandisk with a surface scan.  You may end up having to reinstall Windows if it can not boot.

Well, no actually, i couldn't. I had to remove the hard drive BUT i managed to rescue and save to disc about 95% of my data. Lucky, eh? Still, my laptop's busted beyond repair. :weep:
