FF7 and AA w/ Radeon 9800Pro

well i guess all you guys have already tried this out but, i just wanted to know if there is any....any...any possible fix for this..

anyway to have AA and AF on using a Radeon 9800Pro with FF7 without have those crazy lined green and purple blocks.  I've been reading a ton of entries in this forum about this problem using an Nvidia cards and saying it has to do with 8-bit paletted textures.  however is there a program that will disable those 8-bit paletted textures with like how Nvidia uses rivatuner....but with a radeon 9800pro card??

I've used all the necessary patches in order to get the game running correctly under windows XP even the chocobo patch that this good ol forum members had made....thanks for that patch!!!!

here are my specs if this helps.

AMD 2600+
Epox 8HKA+ Mobo using VIA 266 chipset
1024mb DDR PC2100
200GB WDC HDD
Radeon 9800Pro 128mb using Catalyst 3.10 drivers
Soundblaster Live Value

this is pretty much the same thread i made not even a week ago...

but yea i've thought of/done the same exact things except get the unofficial xp hack which im guessing you say you got..
at least i didnt have to go through that, though im on dialup so i cant just go getting every patch/driver..

i saw someone mention catalyst 3.4's i think it was..

I JUST DONT GET how there are so many nvidia users playing ff7 and few radeon..

i do know that powerstrip is what us ati users would use in customizing settings..
but i dont know how all to do that if it has it/we need it..

i think at the time of all of these threads made up to years back.. nvidia users just might not have had a control panel or aa..

i know things are unsorted here but thats all i can tell..

www.guru3d.com is the big ati site that should list the program if we even need it..

www.ati.com for old drivers which i think they host.. i think i have some on cd so i guess i can try those..

tell me what you find out

AND ANYONE ELSE FEEL FREE TO RESPOND !

Alright sir! I will respond.. I am not too sure of tweaking raedons; however, FF7 runs great on older pcs. PCs which for the most part now cost in the upwards of $50 - $100 or maybe even a decent one from a garage sale.. Go buy one of those, and run ff7 without headache..

Trust me your thread has been read by people, but they may not have the answer.. My answer will work.. It's probably just one you didnt wish to hear.. If the other people in this forum knew the answer they would give you advice, and perhaps someone is working on a solution right now..

yea thx for replying..

this forum works weird, but thats ok, b/c things do get answered though few seems here at once..

but I HAVE NEWS.

i dont have any previous catalyst drivers and im on slow dialup BUT I GOT MY RADEON CD

and i installed the cd drivers catalyst version 2.5 AND THEY WORKED

i put on aa at 4xm (6x i think is broken or runs really slow with less of an improvement)

and it was crystal clear, no gridlines or anything, i havent had much of a chance to see for sure if it physically worked (just on world map)

but ill go into midgar and check it out where im familiar with.

im excited, but my newer games might not run right (a big downside)

i'll make a thread after i confirm it working.
im not totally sure if anyone has said in any other post if a version worked, i think i could have seen it.

but i think hardly anyone knows about it anyway...

The gridlines shouldn't occur on the world map, only in areas with a pre-rendered 2D background (i.e., everywhere else).

:(

what about like nibelheim ? that was clear too... i just got into the world map so i wont be able to go into midgar for a while

the only bad thing about catalyst 2.5 is that it has no force v-sync so rips occur

but other than that it sounds like everything worked... im going to take screens of different/no aa to see how much

so you're saying aa doesnt work on the world map, or maybe it does and isnt harsh on it..
i still see jaggies in the horizon so..

UPDATE: it was catalyst 2.4 not 2.5 that seems to work with aa

i always thought it was 2.5 that was on my cd..

this sucks though i see no improvement myself from 0x to 6x aa..

god maybe this crap is broke...
i see none in 0/4/6 aa

but i never heard of broken aa in catalyst drivers

what the hell.

it may be the driver but i doubt it... does anyone have evidence of aa working in comparison ?
