Now I'm having problems with Final Fantasy VII

I'm trying to get the game running with FSAA enabled, and after doing everything listed in 'The Great FF7 FAQ' I'm still getting gridlines in the background.:(

I have a GF3 Ti200 running the 53.03 drivers.

Maybe I screwed something up along the way.  I remember reading somewhere, on a different board, that all I needed out of the 1.02 patch was the config file....having been a PC gamer for 22 years it sounded strange to not replace the exe when patching a game, so I replaced the exe with the one in the 1.02 patch.  Was what I read on the other board correct?  I did ask, but no one replied.

Well I got FSAA working with FF7.  Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers did the trick, but now I'm having a problem with the text.  The text is readable, but it looks strange.  Here's a screen shot.

The text in the game looks worse then it appiers in the screen shot.  Setting your desktop to 640x480, and viewing the screen shot in full screen mode, should allow you to see how it really looks in-game.

If you use gf3 or gf4ti, the text will look a little strange. But that is ok.
(the text will look a little better if you use gf4ti)

You can get clear text by using the ff7.exe from rendition patch. But rendition patch is buggy.

However, if you play ff8pc, gf3 and gf4ti should have better compatibility than fx series.

Okay thanks.  Just how buggy is the rendition patch?

Yes, I know....but, as I had said I followed the FAQ to the letter and I still had a few problems.  But, you would have known that if you had bothered to read what I posted.

Hi!

I'm having the same problem with my... NEW PC!  :D

Is there any other way of fixing FF7 with the 1.02 patch without using RivaTuner or disabling 8-bit textures?  :-?

xeriouxi.

The other way is to use the FF7.exe from the game, and use the FF7config from the patch...and not to check anything. But it's not going to fix the text thing....from what I hear.

I don't remember what they said, fixed it.....maybe it was to use an older driver.

I fixed it by disabling 8-bit paletted textures and using the 1.02 patch :P
But now that's not necessary, if you play the game in FSAA.  From what Halohalo says, this will work better on a GeForceFX card if you use driver version 45.xx or older.

How I got FF7 running with FSAA was I installed the 1.02 patch, use both FF7.exe and the config file, the I left the nvidia box unchecked and enabled 8-bit textures.  That gave me the slight problem with the text, but after playing the game for a few hours I don't even noticed it anymore. :)

I hope that helps.
