Problems problems problems.
« on: 2004-04-01 11:26:49 »
Hi

Right, here are the specs for my PC

Amd 64 bit processor. XP3200
1GB Corsair DDRam
Rad 9600 (I wanted a 9800xt but it was too expensive)
Sound blaster Audigy 2.5

My games crashes as Cosmo Canyon when you go into the observatory and Tifa says 'Look a shooting star' then the game crashes. I have the XP patch but it doesn't fix this bug. But i have had other problems, on the railway bridge when the track collapses and you can jump, if i fell the game crashed as well.

My friend who has a similar system but he has a 32bit processor  and a 9800xt doesn't have this problem, also i am running serial ati so is this a factor? And i also notice he can play his bike game at regular speed which is really weird.

Oh and by the way, you should see how fast MY bike game is, it is finished in 5 seconds!  :)

And also my movies play upright but when i play them through media player i see them upside down, i know there is a patch but will this help with my problems showing the FMV in Cosmo canyon?

Any help would be appreciated.

Your first mistake was installing the XP Patch. The Chocobo patch surfices for XP's problems running FFVII.

The Cosmo Canyon Bug is on odd one.. if you send me your save game then I will take you to after the bug. There is no "fix" for this.

The "Upside Down Movie" patch I don't think will affect the FMV at Cosmo Canyon.. but you could try:
Download Patch here

You'll have to wait a couple of days, this isn't my Pc i'm typing on now.

I didn't know about that XP patch thing, looks like my friends will have to be informed. But i'll nab that chocobo patch.

Do you think Serial Ati maybe to blame? As i know it is experimental.

I find that i can play the game but then i must save to watch an FMV as if there are 2 FMVS like that of Cosmo Canyon then it will crash.  found on the railway line that thegame would run fine the first time i fell, but if i fell a second time it would crash.

I have no idea what Serial Ati is... but I don't think it is responsible. Other people experience the same problems as you.. it's an XP problem.. got nothing to do with the Graphics Card.

serial ati, dunno what that is, perhaps u mean Serial ATA. but in this case hard drive isn't the cause of problems, in fact i can't remember ne hard drive problems regarding final fantasy 7 or 8 ...

Serial Ata! i always get confused. My PC is a test bed, as you can see from the Specs its made to be powerful but once i get that 9800xt and a decent working version of win xp 64 it will fly! :)

But think, how many people use it? Its a test programme really. And wasn't thought of in 1998.

Anyway i digress.

Any idea why my friend gets his version to run fine? His specs are identical to mine except he's a 32 bit processor and a 98xt. Yet he seems to have a speed cap on his.

That chocobo patch, will it only fix the choocbo races? Or is there anything else i may need. I've seen the other patches available but i don't want to fill my pc with patches.

You should install this patch: (Will update FFVII to 1.02)
http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/Patch.jsp?patch=27&altList=true&game=79&platform=3
(In ff7config.exe -> For Radeon cards I find that checking the NVidia box and sleecting TNT works the best)

And the Chocobo Patch.

There are no other Patches you need.

The 1.02 / Chocobo Patches are all you need... I promise
(Unless you have upside down movies... or you are using a Laptop :erm: )

Here are the available patches for FFVII:
http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqSearchResults.jsp?problemType=13&searchText=&game=79&platform=3

If you think you need them... install them.

That crash is a common crash.....It's been around for as long as I can remember. The problem is that no one has figured out the cause, yet. I guess it's mainly, because the people you could figure out the cause, never have had that crash on their machine. That crash and the Biglight crash seem to be random crashes...random in that some people have the crash and some don't.

There is a movie you could try double clicking on to see if it works....I can't remember what it's called though....and you don't want to randomly click movies, unless you like spoilers. It may be called Boogy-something....or maybe shootingstar. Anyway that's will be the movie that should play that your machine is crashing on. If you double click on it and it won't play....then that would be your problem, a corrupt movie file. Biglight.avi is another one that likes to crash. The biglight.avi likes to crash because it has sound in it.....Codec crash. I can't remember if the Shooting Star movie has music or not....I don't think it does.

I'd suggest using Basic Sound Acceleration in the Dxdiag.exe program. If that didn't work, then I'd suggest to play in Quarter Screen mode, as well. It's an option in the FF7config.exe file. Doing that can get you through a few hang ups with this game. Such as the submarine, and snow board parts.

Like I said there is no fix for this crash at Cosmo Canyon.

If you post your save game or E-mail it to me... then I shall take you past this point on my computer.
