Sound fx problem
« on: 2004-06-15 15:35:04 »
Hello, I don't hear sound fx in game. In FF7config.exe, I hear the chocobo. My soundcard is on my mothercard : nForce2. The driver selected in FF7config is "nvidia nforce audio".
I hear the midi in game and in config...

I try to downgrade to DirectX 5 and it changes nothing...

Can someone help me ?

Please check the size of your audio.dat file
(FF7 Folder\data\sound) and post it here.

... Other people have had this problem. I don't think they found a solution.

Try different Sound Accerleation settings, maybe one of the 4 will work. Just type dxdiag, in the run menu of windows and go to the Sound Tab.

With Win98 you would uninstall and reinstall Windows Audio Compression in Mediaplayer, in Add/Remove Programs on the Windows Setup Tab, and that would fix it....but that function isn't in WinXP.

Does the volume bar in the game work? Is it set to zero?

I asked for the file size because we've had some people complain about this problem, but it turned out they were using pirated copies of FF7 with an audio.dat file of 0 bytes :P

Anyway, yeah, I agree with Threesixty's suggestions.

I have WinXP so I can't uninstall Audio Compression.

I try all the four acceleration and no sound :(

The volume bar works and it's set to 100.

Any other ideas ?

You ARE using the legitimate bought version arn't you, and not the "Ultima" edition downloadable from the web?

I've found the solution !

You need two codecs :
Microsoft ADPCM Audio Codec
IMA ADPCM Audio Codec

And the sound fx works !

THink you can post links?

By opposite install method, I just meant to use full vs. min. install.

No file needed, all files are included in windows XP !
You have to install these codec with "add new hardware" and select winnt.inf in your windows/system32 directory.

Hey, I'm new here.

So I think my copy of FF7 isn't legit if the audio.dat / audio.fmt is showing as 0 bytes.

I paid my friend $20 for these discs (said he lost the originals) and now I don't have sound effects???  That sucks.   :x

Is there any way (site/URL/etc) that I could get these missing files?  I don't like pirating software either, but I'm already out $$ and don't want to spend the additional $20 to buy it off eBay.

Any help here?   :(
