codecs w/ upside down patch
« on: 2004-07-11 02:09:34 »
I just recently installed final fantasy 7 and all the movies were running upside down, i got very frustruated and uninstalled/reinstalled about 4 times then found the upside down patch, i installed it but now the game crashes at the beginning battle as soon as i hit attack or any other command that triggers an animation, i have also tried waiting for the guards to attack first but as soon as they run towards me the game crashes. I dont know whether this is from codecs or something else but some help would be greatly appreciated (i dont know how to find if i have any codecs installed, i likes to generally play classic games without messing with them too much )

thank you :)

also my system specs are as follows:

Windows 2000 5.00.2195 service pack 4
AMD Duron Processor AT/AT compatible
523,760 RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200

First: Please don't double post. There, I said it, now noone else has to.

Second: That doesnt sound like a codec problem, it sounds more like youve somehow gotten a bad copy of the battle animation files. Are you using the original discs? If so then try reinstalling it one more time and then installing the upside-dpwn movie patch.

Are you using the 1.02 patch? If not, get it (I dont have a link but someone else may have one offhand, or just go to Eidos site). Simple to use, just do what the instructions say and DONT check the NVidia box. That will give you hardware acceleration (provided 1.02 applies to your card, it does to any GeForce2), which Im not sure is even a solution, as most of the time its running in hardware rendering mode thats the problem to begin with. But still worth a try.

First.  Damn you!!!  You took my place >_<  (And this further proves my point about n00bs not reading the rules.)

Second.  Messiah is right, Its cant be a codec problem as codecs are only implimented in Movies, And battles have no movies in them.

Third.  Copy the installation disc to the HD and see if there are any errors from the copy over, next do a full install from the HD, and copy the movies over to the HD, just to be sure and then edit the regestry.  you can find out what to change in the FAQ.

You can place them anywhere, But make sure the regestry points to the exact folder.  Oh, and forget aobut the first point , that was aimed at messiah.

..........uh oh, that was blasphemy wasnt it? Ohh, a knock on the door, well, looks like the church is here to burn me at the stake, bbl peoples.

Soulstriper, you mean that the game crashes at the very first battle, after jumping off the train? Or somethin else? Cuz I dont recall there being a patch for it crashing right after you get off the train...

I sometimes used to have this problem back in the day when playing on my voodoo 1. I think I fixed it by changing graphics drivers or direct x versions but doubt that will be of any help with modern hardware & drivers

I got it fixed with the application compatability thingy but the game crashes all the time if i dont run it from the ACT program so i cant cheat but other than that the game runs fine now besides a few screen flickers on and off nothing i cant tolerate thanks for all the help.

Addition: Maybe its just time to move on from all the old classic games  :weep:  technology has just pushed them into the past lol
