« on: 2004-07-18 12:00:00 »
well this an ATI based Problem again but i didnt find a thread about this by now.

When i execute the FF7 application the screen turns black and iam back on the Desktop. I Have Patch 1.02 and chocobo Patch applied. But it doesnt work. I run it on D3D with the TNT Patch.
My Specs:
P4 2.6
ATi radeon 9600TX (equal to a 9500 Pro)
i use the Cataclyst 4.4

someone has a guess?

Does it work in software rendering mode?
Does it fail 8-bit palletted textures if you uncheck the nVidia box in FF7Config?  If so, make sure you had the nVidia/TNT boxes selected.

When i Uncheck the Box it switches to Software rendering (automatically) and shows this 8 Bit... FAIL. But also In Software Rendering it crashes.
I thought maybe something is wrong with my DX install and installed 9.0b fromt he Thief DS CD but nothing changed. Might it be the driver? i know there was a new Release. Shall i try out the Omega Drivers? But thats strange that not only the Software Mode works.
[Edit]
I got a little Step forward by turning on a Compitability Mode for Win 98/ME but the screen stays black now...if that is better than the Desktop ...i dont know

You didn't happen to download it, did ya?  You might be missing eidos.avi, the first thing ff7 does when you open it.

The general, rule is:
If the box is unchecked, don't use the FF7.exe from the patch.
If the box is checked, use the FF7.exe from the patch.

Now, the following holds true with the Geforce cards (it's basicly the same rule as above). I don't know about ATI, though.

If the 8 bit pallet says failed....you use the whole TNT patch and check the box.
IF it says pass, you only use the FF7config.exe from the patch and don't check any boxes.

----
Any variation to the above rules, will cause an immediate black screen and return to desktop, from my experience.

btw: stay away from that winxp patch, unless you like your windows' midi sounds altered.
