Just a quickie. I know in the PS version you can soft reset the (any) game with L1+L2+R1+R2+Start+Select... is there any way to do this in the PC version, to avoid quitting and restarting?

...not sure what the PC equivalent of the PS buttons are...

Trying for coloured chocobos, in case you didn't guess...

I don't know if you can soft-reset it. If is possible it has to be done with a gamepad (Keyboards let only 2 normal keys pressed together).

You can go into any random battle (outside the frame, in your case) and cast something like Ultima on your party.

I think MORE than 2 keys can be pressed at the same time oniFLOP. I doesn't depend on how many keys but rather if the signals are the same type. In other words, if the circuits cross paths in certain places, you get the dreaded PC speaker beep that means you have too many keys pressed at the same time.

I don't know if there is a soft reset function for PC games. I really think it was sloppy of Square to force the users to use Alt+F4 to exit out of FF8 or to just reset it at the very least. They could have made a menu for that stuff but they decided not to. Maybe someone can make a patch for it?

If you ever looked thru the manual of FF8 it says to hit....something...I forget.

Alt-Q or Ctrl-Q.....or something to that effect. But it exits just the same with Alt-F4.

As for Ctrl-Alt-Del....you have to do it twice. :love:
Then you get scolded for doing it when scandisk pops up....at least with Win98, don't know what XP does; don't own it.

I was refering to "normal keys" like letters, numbers, funcion keys (F?), etc...

Control, Alt, Shift, are exception, for example.

That's not what I meant... I know that becuase those keys don't go anywhere near the circuits of the other keys. I know what you are thinking but it doesn't work that way. It doesn't get recognized as a "normal key" as you put it. All the keys are equal. They come in as code so it doesn't matter what key it is. As long as there are too many commands coming from the keyboard in the same circuits, it beeps. Have you ever programmed in TI-Basic? It's like that with keyboard on your PC. I hope this helps you out a bit into how keyboards work... getting off topic though.

I think there should be a universal patch for ALL games to have a soft-reset function. It just adds an extra line of code for the the main executable to run. Then it will get mapped to a key no one uses such as scroll-lock. Unless the programming is a bitch, it should work... at least I hope it does.

Yeah, I know the way it really works. I was talking about how it behaves.
I only was saying that in fact, the computer won't recieve signal, for example, for three numbers at once.

Indeed, my old keyboard *never* let me use any more than three keystrokes at a time, but once I got my new computer a few years ago, I've never had any trouble recognising as many as 10 simultaneous keystrokes.

It's very annoying in any FPS when I use Ctrl for crouch, since I can crouch and move forward+right, but not crouch and move forward+left.

Amen my brother!!

My keyboard becomes a little bitch with Shogo. Really hard to do anything as fast as you want to unless you use a joystick or gamepad. Especially when playing online. -_-
