Umm.. I remember I saw a screenshot way back when with changed hair colour on characters... I wanted to make Tifa's chest part wholly black.. Is it possible..?

Probably, it is vertex shaded after all. It should work. It just depends where that section of the code is. I don't know exactly where. Is it in the Gears project? Where's Halkun when you need him??

I work on the "the "Backend" for gears during the week, so I don't post much... that and I have that whole "work" thing. I have the PC 3d file format in there, I have to seriously clean up the organazation...

The short answers is yes you can.
The long answer is the models use colored verticies and you will have to change the color of each polygon vertex on the chest.  This does create a bit of a prolem so you have too tweak the vertices carefully so you don't end up with a mess. I suggest medium colors also because dark will always look too dark (grin).
I know most of the PSX format but I doubt that's the source material you want to modify.

Here is what I came up with...
I think that giving more shades to the white straps will help.. I somehow managed with shading the bust ^^; T'seems the contrast is too heavy. Oh well. First try.

Sucky work, but thanks for encouraging ^^...
So far so good -- played FFVII for an hour or so and it starts to blend in nicely.. Gotta make the shirt of the skirt colour or the other way around. I'll try to find the Cloud-Sephiroth and make some screenies when I get back home...

And noo, no nudes. X3
(although think how funny would nipples look on vertex shading :o )

Oh it would...
Look at the current state of the breasts -- almost everything is 0/0/0 except the frontal one which is 50/50/50. Now make it skin coloured, and see a grand nipple-star instead of the gray lighting (yes, the whole ligther part is from one vertex).
Bleah.  :z

Stupid idea -- how about... I was wondering of chaning Tifa's lower part with Aerith's (only the legs) and changing the colour into black. It would be even more ACish... Gotta try that out. They seem to be proper in size, unless the clothing is put seperately.. *checks*

Checked. It would suck big time.

Had to -- more then 2 discs ahead of me, I wouldn't survive with that black thing..

Updated version, more shading, more levels of colour...

Few notes. Colour (thanks Cyberman for the medium mention) for shirt taken from skirt, to match.
About straps -- I think there is no chance of making them look any better.. Tried a bit, but darker blend too much in, ligther are too much exposed.. Tho I think they are edible on the last screen...

What do you think?

P.S. Anybody knows which Field file is for Tifa's chest...?

Hmmmm TIFA.LZS contains a LOT of stuff on the PSX version, however the PC version is a different matter (smile).  You would have to crack open the file I suppose.

Doing the frontal nude thing is actually quite easy to do, but I definately am NOT telling you how.   LOL. I'm not sure it would work on the PSX version, however the PC version is a good candidate.

The problem with the PSX version is if they decided to use sector locations to access information on the disc instead of file names. If they really do use file names then the PSX version might actually be the easiest to do something like that with.

On an aside note with judicious use of textures you could make much better straps for Tifa.  It would require you do do some skinning and modify the texture (make it bigger too).  I don't believe her chest has any textured polygons. So grabing the polygons that make up the strap and making them textured polygons and adding a strap and skin texture in for those would allow you to make nicer looking straps (or more realistic).  You might need to do some shifting of the part where the straps connect to the skirt too.  IE make those textured triangles with skin background.  You can abuse the UV coordinates to get the scaling the way you want.

Okay.. now you might wanna see if you can get rid of the bottoms of the suspenders, and maybe lower the botom of her top (or haev teh white underneith poking out).  Also, she needs a haircut.  This is easy to do.  You just have to find the bottom part of her hair and extract it, convert it into a different 3d format, and try putting it back in.  ff7 wont recognize it and wont render it.  But bam, isntant haircut =)

Also, this (making ac characters) should be easy to do with Cloud, if someone was willing.  All you'd need is some parts of Sephiroth's and Yuffies models (yuffie for the arm thing.. hopefully it's long enough or can be stretched out a tiny bit).

Nice work. :)  Is there a way to make a 3D model of something and rename it to that specific part of the character or does it check for how many polys are being used for that part? I think making your own custom parts for the characters is a fun idea. Make every character Advent-like. Maybe even redo the characters to your own liking! (non-nude)

Remotely on topic, has anyone found a way to mod ffXI?

I can say from personal experience that ff7 doesnt like things being replaced.      especailly stuff with a different # of polys.  I might be wrong.. i may have bungled up replacing the files i was working with...

However, it doesnt look for specific character information, but specific file information.  This is how/why we have the high-res cloud patch.  the game is just being told to use THESE parts instead of THOSE.

Since the high poly cloud and seph models have a lot to work with, you could technically edit THEIR body parts to your liking, and as long as you don't change much, use those for a base for whatever it is you'd wanna do.

Tell the truth I just wanted to change colours...

I thought of getting rid of the lower straps, but fitting a proper colour was too much work..

Oh well, will think on it when I get back home..

Umm... Uploading the whole battle.lgp makes no sense...
You think making a patch using tools.exe to make an IPS is good enough?
Or do you recommend something else..?

There are tools called 'Patcher' which compare original file with changed file and create difference result, which can be applied at any original to change it. Results are usually very small, so they can be easily uploaded.
But Im not using any patcher so i cannot recommend any.

Tools.exe is a patcher.. Used in the Sephiroth patch...
The exe is 60kb or something, IPS have few kb's..
When I get home I will try it out..

Sorry for taking my time..

This is the file - Tifa Patch ..

Usage :

- Backup your battle.lgp from the /data/battle directory.
- Unpack both battle.ips and tools.exe to that directory.
- Run tools.exe
- Select "Use IPS", choose battle.ips, choose battle.lgp, wait for it to patch, and see if it works

Please post if it did..

No, the patch is only for black-shirt Tifa...
And savage-xp -- the S-patch changes the roles of Cloud and Sephiroth, so you are Sephiroth chasing Cloud throughout the world... It's not only putting him in the party as a character..
