ok, i figured out a much simpler way to get everything working on radeon cards. it HSOULD work on all radeon cards. mine is an x800 pro but all radeon cards use the same drivers so it shouldn't be any problem. here's the instructions:

1. click start > run
2. type "regedit" without the quotes and click ok
3. navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics"
4. double click driver in the right window, and enter 0 for the value
5. that's it! run ff7 and it should work perfectly! it did for me!

the only thing i'm unsure about is running config again, i would guess that would reset it so don't run it just in case. but if you do, you can always change it again.

I was running in software mode 640x480 on my 9800 Pro, went to the registry and already had Driver: 0, so this doesn't really do anything for me.  :-?

hmm... well, try changing it to 1? lol it's experimentation at this point.

EDIT: try running config, checking nvidia and the tnt drivers set. then going and changing the driver value in your registry, that's pretty much what i did, but i didn't think changing the config would matter. worth a shot.

Hang on a second, I'm obviously missing something here about the whole ATI card issue - I don't really keep up with this, I usually just select Software Rendering and be done with it as to me it's only a minor difference between Software/Hardware Rendering. Anyway...

Without AA/AF, simply selecting the NVidia TNT radio button gives me perfect results, hardware rendering with no tiling or anything, perfect field screens. It's only when I use AA that I start getting gridlines & messed up text, but wasn't this the issue with GeForce cards and their various drivers? Bearing in mind I'm using the QFixApp utility to run the game since I'm on Windows 2000, and not using it crashes even in Software Rendering (usually when I enter a battle).

Either way - I did try your method but switching the driver value still doesn't work, it reverts back to Software rendering, as noted by the pixellated textures.

What do you mean by everything? Do you mean your graphics look nice or that it passes all the tests in FFVII Config?
This method does nothing for me... I find that my best results with my Radeon come by checking the TNT option in the 1.02 Config.. the only problem I have is the Barret Beard issue.
