Slight change of location
« on: 2004-09-06 03:00:47 »
I'm currently typing this at an Internet café at Arlanda airport, Stockholm, Sweden. It's 5 in the morning, in a few hours my flight will leave for Paris, and a few hours after that I will be on the flight towards my final destination: Tokyo, Japan.

Much of my work will be on hold until I manage to set up a laptop and an internet connection, and I might thus also be gone from here for a while. Fear not, though. I will from time to time keep an eye on you all, even without a high-speed connection. ;)

P.S. Beware of wandering the central Stockholm train station at nighttime. I was trying to find my way to the airport and ended up being escorted away by armed security guards...

Moving for good, or just visiting? I wish I could visit Europe... so expensive though.

Good Luck and Have fun, don't cause to many incidents in Train Stations :p

PS - Shouldn't this be in Completely unrelated.... I'm kidding... just being a jerk.

Just out of curiosity..

Why did they stop you? Seems rather useless to be escorting civilians away unless you stumbled into some restricted missile testing ground or had a Kalashnakov  :-?

If I ever get the money to travel, here are some places I would like to visit:

England
Germany
Russia
S. Korea
Taiwan
Scotland
Spain

And maybe Ireland.

Why Germany?
Germany is the dullest country I've ever been to...

I'd like to visit Jamaica once, just to taste the atmosphere.

I have a rule of thumb about travelling:

If their government has had 7 presidents in the last 6 months, and their latest technological advancement is the AK-47, I tend to veer past those countries...

All the time on the History Channel in the U.S. you hear stories about Americans being held hostage on vacation, i.e. Mexico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, ect. Yeah, it happens all over the world, but Central and South America seem to be the dominant source of ransomes for the U.S.

No offense or anything, Im just saying, if you live in the U.S., make sure ya know about the countries you're traveling to  :-?

My father went down to Mexico on some cruise I found out while visiting him this summer. He told me about how polluted the air was, and how they wouldn't serve any American or any other beer except Mexican...

Not to mention he went on the cruise with his wife's (Notice I didnt say mother) ex-husband and his new girlfriend...

Yikes!  :o

Im guessing you're studying there? 11 months seems quite a long time for a vacation.

But is it good? 11 months of going from Broadband to 56k can drive anyone mentally ill...

Heh, where in Kanagawa? I'm living in Yokohama, so looks like distance won't be a huge problem :P Dunno where I'll be specifically during new year, but I imagine I won't be far away...

Exchange student, quite right. Studying at Tokyo Kogyo Daigaku (Tokyo Institute of Technology), to be precise.

And the connection seems to have about the same downstream I usually get at home from servers like Qhimm.com... Upstream is limited though, so I'm betting it's some form of aDSL (haven't examined it closer). Anyway, it works fine for me ^^

*looks for IRC client*

The dormitory and student part helped  :P

How exactly did you end up getting escorted by armed guards? That still puzzles me. Or are you not at liberty to discuss that..? >_>

It would seem my internet connection is a bit restrictive on ports, so at present I'm not getting on any IRC it seems.

Well I'm not sure what it was about myself either... something about the central being closed that time of night and I wasn't allowed to be there. Which was odd, seeing as the train stopped there and opened its doors for us to disembark...
