Freeze in the City of the Ancients

Hey, I got to the part in the game where you return to the city of the ancients (in disk 2) and the old guy (I can never remember his name...) goes to put the key into the music box.  Right as he is lowering it, the game will freeze.  Anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can fix this?  I have tried reinstalling, and rebooting.

Thanks in advance,
                            James

Looks like another video crash.
My standard answer is to try it in Basic Sound Acceleration mode.
Type dxdiag go to the sound tab and move the slider bar...the effect is instant, no reboot is needed.

The other standard answer is to play through in Quarter Screen mode...in Software render mode.

If neither work.....usually the only thing that works is to let some one else play thru for you.

You could dig deeper and try to play the movie in media player, to see if the movie is corrupt...and if it is, try to find a substitution for it.... But then you have to play the movies off the harddrive, and then you'll need instruction on how to do that..... what a bother.

Well, neither of you suggestions worked, and I tried them combined too.  Also, I don't seem to be able to play any of the movies in media player, am I missing a codec or something?  I'll probably end up having to get some one to play through it, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

Get the upsidedown patch (if that doesnt work, go to edios's site and do a search).  that will let you at least play fmvs in media player/winamp.

NOTE: The UMP is incompatable with some codec packs.  if you don't have any isntalled, then great, but if you have a shitload of codecs on your comp, then make a system restore point before you do anything.

As for transfering the movies to your HD, then try this: this

Nope, still nothing working :(  I got someone to play through that part for me, hopefully I won't need anyone to do that again...
