FF7 crashes b4 battle

Gday i have looked arounda  bit and cant seem to fine ne answers to this problem. our computer recently undertook some changes most notable, norton internet security,  Win XP SP2 and a much needed driver update for the ATI card i run (its now on 4.10). Bofre making these changes the game ran perfectly even on the ATI Radeon card, i installed the high res cloud model for battles, the chocobo path and the v1.02 patch and they worked fine also. Now when ever i go into battle it is a risk that the game will go to a black srenn with a windows error box and shut down my game, it appears to be random which battle it is, i can play 4 half and hour the crash and then i can play for 1 min get into a fight then crash. I dont no what to do and its confusing the hell outa me. please sum1 help

System Specs:
Windows Xp
1000MHz pentium 3
768Mb DDR Ram
SP2
ATI Radeon 9600 XT (Catalyst 4.10)

Try removing / re-installing your copy of FFVII and just apply the 1.02 + Chocobo patch. (Don't apply the high-res cloud patch just yet). If you backup your save directory you wont lose any of your save games.

Hmm...just thinking, Ive noticed for about a month now (ive been reading the boards before I joined) that there havent been any topics about the various types of crashes....do you think that SP2 has fixed some stuff, and found another?

Im still running SP1 and had no problems with it to start with....but its just a thought

I think it's rather unlikely that SP2 affected people's ability to play FF7, for better or for worse.

:lol:  With the amount of programs that do not bloody work anymore thanks to SP2, it would be ironic that FF7 would work better.  Who knows.  I'll have to slap my copy of FF into my Sp2 box and see.

Maybe its becasue people finally understand that we dont help them if they pirated the game =P

Back on topic, i would dare say its either SP2 or the new drivers.  Though why they wouldnt render only battles is odd...
