Movie wont show when MoviePath is changed in FF7
« on: 2005-02-02 02:39:54 »
****I know what im doing with registry editing. i know the risk of it and i done this before.****

I changed the MoviePath to my hard drive, so it can run the movie from the hard drive, not the CD. I put a full path where i put the movie in with the exact word of it. But it not running any movie of it. but i cam get to main menu fine but the movie is not displaying. my .avi default is WinAmp and yes i already got a patch for WinAmp to work in FF7. but when the CD is displaying the movie, it run perfectly but in hard drive, it not showing any movie at all. i did this before in couple of months ago, and it work fine but now it not.

I am using WinXP SP1
**im not updating my service pack until SP2 is safe to use, i already know about the problems in sp2**

Does your account on winxp have admin access?

Did you bother to restart?

Also, yeah, make sure everything is in your ff7 directory.  Theoretically, you -should- beable to put the movies anywhere, but some people ahve had problems getting that to work.

I am experiencing a very similar problem.   One of the movies on disc two (greatpit.avi) refuses to properly play.  I tried it in WMP (latest version), and got an error, the movie kept playing without video and informed me that:  Truemotion filter needs t be updated www.duck.com.  I've been to the recommended site, and the company no longer supports this codec.  Naturally I tried copying the movie directory to my hard drive, but much like the OP, when i changed the registry to the according directory it simply didn't work.  the into movies no longer loaded, and i had to re-install sevral times.  I have the upside down movie patch, I've tried the riva and cyrix patches, and have had little luck.  Thus far the game had played flawlessly with the chocobo patch alone.

I'm not sure if changing my video/audio codes will help, but i'd be willing to try if somebody would tell me where to start.  XP is a real pain about things like that.

Win XP home SP2
2.8 ghz pentium 4
512 ram
128 m ATI radeon 300x series.

All help is apreciated, I have played ten hours into this game 4 times and never beaten it.

cuz the Registry is very ANAL and CaSe SeNsiTiVe. if you create a fodler for FF7 movie like this "Movies" then told the registry "movies". then it wont work, cuz registry is still anal and case sensitive. So if you told the registry to use the folder "Movies" then that will work cuz of the folder is using a cap M. that how the registry of computer world works

That path should work for everyone the executable usually stores a path to itself and adding Movies\ or however it prefers should be just fine providing name and path is correct.

Check that the movies folder is in the main FF7 directory and moves are in the movies directory and not somewhere else or in a sub directory.
