FF for mobile phones?
« on: 2005-03-02 13:22:46 »
Does anyone know if, where and how to get the new FF for mobile phones? I heard something about it and i figured someone here would know.
I have a symbian smartphone, so it would be kickass if it would be available for that device. :wicked:

Well to be honest it's not their fault the phones don't exist outside Japan. :P

I wonder if, with all these new games, they will start creating even more story-line problems than there already are.

They will probably port it to the DS. At least I think they will.

It is more likely to get ported to PSP (playstation portable) since Square switched from Nintendo to Sony back in the days of FF7 and it's been Sony ever since.

:isee: Sorry there but it seems i have been corrected. Yes, the majority of FF games are with Sony but also yes, a few FF games have spread to other consoles.

Chesso: The game you are talking about is most probably Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for GameCube

That's the one. Bit offtopic but does anybody know what it's like?

And yeah if there's any porting to be done it'll be on the psp.

(offtopic post)
Chesso: It's like Final Fantasy IX style of graphics but changed to a hack & slash multiplayer type gameplay. I played it but never liked it because it was too different from the turn-based FF I'm used to.

I don't think I can argue on any further  . Square seems to be going all over the place and milking money.
All I hope for is Final Fantasy VII on PSP

You see, it annoys me when Square releases games for other 'non-Sony' brands that are different from the ones of the 'Sony' console. This gets them money since people like me buy all these different consoles just to play a game with FF on the label.

Sorry If I was a bit vague on my last comment, I meant to say the original FF7 ported to PSP.

So the problem isn't really that more people can play more Final Fantasies, it's that less fanboys can play all Final Fantasies. :P

And i just wanted to play FFVII:CC on my mobile phone...

{offtopic} The DS sells in Europe for about 150 Euros. I can't imagine what the PSP will cost.

PSP was released as a standalone unit for around $180 I believe, $220 for the bundle, and is being released for $250 in North America in a bundle form. Before you sharpen the spears, consider this:

Bundle includes:
1 Unit
1 Rechargable Battery
1 Unit Case (little soft case to put it in)
1 32 MB Memory Stick Duo (Current PS2 memory cards hold 8MB)
1 Pair of headphones with remote
1 UMD of Spider-Man 2 (Something'everyone has probally seen, but still nice I think)
1 Demo Disc (But then again, you're going to buy a game with it)

Probally some other minor things I forgot, but other than that, I'd plop down $250 for it.

As for Square and FF being Sony-only oriented, you have to take in account:

Dawn of Souls (FFI+FFII updated with extra battles and what not) for the GBA
FF:CC for the Gamecube
FFIII for the DS
FF:CC for the DS (some sequel I guess)

But at the same time, these arnt really their most anticipated games, just the little scraps off the plate after the main course. But lets face it, the Gamecube never was known for its spectacular sales next to Microsoft and Sony, so why invest your next big entry of your most popular franchise into a machine that had begun to die right out of the gate? Look at Capcom, there's a reason why Resident Evil 4 isnt a Gamecube exclusive anymore...

Square has also discussed interest in developing for Microsoft on two instances; One during an interview about future Final Fantasies, and on the future of FFXI ("The gamers of FFXI will need some place to go once the PS2's life cycle runs out," or something along those lines were said).

And as for the porting to the PSP...very unlikely.

Just like the PS2, Sony will probally have a very strong resistance to 2D games on the debut of their system (Or anytime at all really). Why do you think there are rarely any new 2D games on the PS2?
