mmm i cant figure out why that crater is there. as you see a map

if you look at the third picture, that where i am at the crater

thought it was Lunatic Pandora... but not it not...... thought it a "force field" that Esthar have... but no it not... it didnt expand to that.

if you look at the picture above, you see the green one is Lunatic Pandora is, i cant excat pinpoint where it is but i know it in the ocean cuz that where Laguna sent it. and if you see the red line around Esthar area, those are "force field" they have.

I tried to go use the Garden to across it, but it wouldnt let me, thought cuz of the ground but not this message

you see, that almost similar to ff7, when Highwind Airship trying to touch Northern Crater before Disc 4, you will get a message from Barret or someone lese saying there is a shield protecting the crater. SO i wondering what is that, why it is there?

I thought it was the excavation site for the Lunatic Pandora when I played through, but it was a long time ago so I don't know...

From a purely gameplay point of view if I remember correctly it was simply to stop you from wandering into Esthar before you were meant to get there.

if so, then they should not put that there, they should put mountain there to prevent us.

it was one of the points of "lunar cry". which is why the readings go berserk.

It's where the Lunatic Pandora was excavated..

The place which the Lunar Cry hits is the Centra region..Near Odin's place, where there are blue rocks on the map..

Its nowhere near Odin, he was down in that ring of islands off the old orphanage...

Odin's temple is in the Centra region, therefore it is near Odin's temple.

Odin is in Cetra region with Tonberry (GF) as well

It's been a while but...i'm near 100% positive that crater is part of the PuPu card quest. You have to go that crater after you see his ufo 4 times at various specific points on the world map. There's a second crater as well somewhere...but not sure.

Anyway, check here for details.

khaz - you're absolutely wrong. Crater, where you can find PuPu is located on Alcauld Plains after Balamb Garden is moved.
Crater on that topic is located near Bika Snowfield and Vienne Mountains, on south-east from Trabia Garden - and this is Trabia Crater

PS. I have no idea why that crater is there..

Hmmm...I thought I might be wrong. I've just started FF8 again so i'll keep an eye out for that crater. Will get back once I fin dout. ;o

I agree with Synergy's idea, I'm pretty sure it's just to keep you from getting to Esthar.

Besides preventing you from being able to reach Esthar, it's role in the story was the site where Lunatic Pandora was excavated..

In one of the Laguna flashbacks, Laguna was there (the old Lunatic Pandora excavation site where u did certain things which results in getting some special item in the present)...The crater is the place Laguna was at that time..

That's the second time you've said that in this thread, and it doesn't make it any more true than it was the first time.

The save menu location bar quite clearly marks the area as *Centra* - Excavation Site. Furthermore, Laguna talks about his "grand escape from Centra" when we next see him in Winhill. The Excavation Site was in Centra, not Trabia.

In addition, Lunatic Pandora was never excavated. It is the Crystal Pillar that was excavated and the Lunatic Pandora immediately built around it (in order to seal and control its abilities). The Crystal Pillar is solely responsible for the calling down of a Lunar Cry, and it caused the Lunar Cry 80 years before the start of the game.

However, it has been stated that several Lunar Cries have also occurred in the past. In the absence of any alternative explanation, it's not a huge reach to say that the Trabia Crater, plotwise, was caused by a past Lunar Cry. Of course, how all this and Tears' Point comes together is something that we'll likely never know.

But yes, the crater's main purpose is to prevent early entrance into Esthar's territory.
