Insufficient Swap Space, Help!
« on: 2005-03-23 20:44:00 »
Yo,
In Final Fantasy 7 when I start up it either says insufficient swap space or it starts up, screen goes black and then it goes back to the desktop.
Please help me! :erm:

You need to free up some disk space, and make sure when you load up FF you have closed all unnecessary programs that are running.

Can you list the specs of your computer system? eg Processor, Ram, etc.

Final fantasy has been known to have some problems with the swap files. However, this usually occurs on the world map where on some computers a large amount of virtual memory is utilised, possibly a leak.

Try running the game using compatibility mode which can be accessed by right clicking on the ff7.exe and selecting properties.

Hmmm, check your page file.

Right click "My computer" --> Properties

--> Advanced --> Performance Settings --> Advanced --> Virtual Memory "Change"

Make sure "System Managed size" is selected.. press the "SET" button, OK, OK, OK and then try...

If I read correctly, the runtime error started appearing when you enabled win95 compatibility mode right ?

If so then you should try putting it in win 98 compatibility mode instead.  And if that fails, juste disable compatibility mode.  Your swap file issue should be fixed now anyway.

I'm far from being an expert but this sounds like a missing movie file to me.

Although in your other thread where you talked about gaia cliff, how did you get to that point ?  did you change anything since then ?

Actually... the screen going black for a moment and then dumping you back on the desktop could be a sign that Direct3D failed to start.  Does it also do this if you change it to software rendering?
