Hi, and plz help me
« on: 2005-06-15 20:56:08 »
I got final fantasy today and installed it fine. I tried every configuration and tried every patch at least once, but when I start the game, and the screen is black, I can hear the music though.

But I read in your forum what to do about it but nothing helps. And after I heard the intro music the game crashes. I only can ctrl-alt-del out of the game and my CPU usage is 100%.

Can someone help me with this.

Ow and I run the game under XP.

Runs fine on my machine...
I'm using service pack 2.... I hear that the newer service packs do not work with a lot of old software.

At the very least, Software mode should be working. I only know of the black screen when trying to get the game to work with Hardware mode. Video Drivers also play a big part in crashes for this game.

If you use the latest Nivdia drivers and use the full TNT patch...with the TNT button checked off and Hardware mode Selected... It should work fine in Hardware mode. Don't know how to get it working with ATI.

Well I'm using SP1 now and tried it with the TNT patch (I got an Nvidia Geforce fx 5600 or something like that), but now it just closes immediatly after start-up.

I will try with SP2 soon and tell you what happens.

Edit: Well I put on the compatibility mode windows 95 for the program and I can hear the first intro tune now. After that the program just shuts down.

Ok some more updates, when I run the game on software mode it's slow as hell and still gets stuck on the intro but I have vision. But the vision is just wrong, it's like a quarter of the image i should have.

Furthermore, if I run it in windowed mode it's at good speed but I still have that stupid quarter image. And in the intro movie the game crashes and i can do nothing except reboot my computer

Not a downloaded version...

Well, that's about the only suggestion I can give you.
And by checked off, ...I meant turned on.

The steps of getting Hardware mode with my Nvidia 6600GT are:
Use the newest driver of 71.89.
Download the TNT Patch.
Copy the two files of the TNT patch into the main FF7 directory.
Open FF7config.exe
Select Hardware mode and check the Nvidia box and TNT box.

As for anti-alasing...I have it set to determined by application... I'm sure it's off.

That should be it.... I may have gotten some of the terms wrong, I don't have the FF7config.exe open in front of me.

Another thing that may stop crashes, is putting Direct Sound Acceleration into Basic mode. Do that by typing Dxdiag, and going into the Sound Tab, and moving the bar till it says basic. Think the bar is also in multimedia, in Control Panel...or somewhere in Control Panel...I never do it that way, think you need to reboot, if you do it that way....or you had to in Win98, anyway.

Oh wait...
I just had the honor of having to reinstall WindowsXP...and pretty much lost all my installations... FF7PC being one of them.

I of course just went thru though the directions I just left and guess what.

when I started FF7 I got a Black screen.

Solution...you need the video codecs. Let the Install Disk autorun from your CD-rom or select setup.exe, and push the Install Movieplayer option. That should install the things you need to run the movies and remove the black screen hang-up. (that is if you do indeed have a legal copy)

As for you comment about Windowed mode.... the game shouldn't have that option...it always runs in Full Mode. Just be sure to check 640x480 16bpp full screen.

And don't forget to select Nvidia TNT, or you'll have some funny looking colors for backgrounds.

Did not help  :(
Could it be that some other software on my computer is in conflict with FF7 or something?
My movies work on Winamp and WMP and they're just normal
Also i've tried to put the movies on the HD, but when the cd has to load the movies from the disc, after a while explorer crashes and restarts  :(
I guess no one has this problem too?

I had this problem, these are symptoms of not having the right codecs to show the movies. To play FF7 you'll have to uninstall all your codecs and use the ones that came on the disc.

Have you tried this patch?  Usually fixes movie issues.
