FF7 battle sprite and movie troubles :/
« on: 2005-06-27 22:06:57 »
EDIT: Found out exactly what was causing hte problems, it's trying to play using d3d instead of software.. and that's to bad really, cause it's so slow this way.  If anyone has an idea for a fix.. now that I narrowed down what was causing the problem all the way.  BTW, if you find a way to remap sidewinder gamepad keys in windows xp I might even dance.. well, assuming to share it with me! :P

Ok, I'm playing on a p2 400, geforce 4 mx 440 (77.72), win xp prof, dx9.0c, and I'm having basically the same trouble Hybir was here...

Hello, I'm new here but does anyone have FSAA problems in battle.

I followed the instructions on this thread, everything works except that the battle effect sprites are streched enormously(eg. Sword slash, Explosions etc.). (I used Rivatuner)

Does anyone know how to fix this?

 AMD Athlon 2000+
 Geforce2mx
 512mb ram

Also though when a movie plays I can only see the top/left quarter of the sceen playing.  I've tried with (and without) all the patches here, in ever combination.  Read all over, and this is the only board I've even found someone with a similar problem.  I have tried reinstalling, and I always have this exact same problem.

Much love to anyone who can suggest something else to try, even if it doesn't work  8)

that problem with only the top left corner showing happened to me the first time I ran the game(in the opening video I could only see half of aeris face...). I can't remember how i solved it exactly but I think you have to go to FF7 configuration and in the graphics tab set 640x480 display resolution(fullscreen mode). I think thats what solved it in my case...

Yah, that's exactly how I see Aeris in the opening movie also.  Just tried changing the resolution a few times, no luck fixing my movies.. reinstalled after putting on some older drivers (61.77) and this fixed my movie woes (didn't use any patches yet, and running in software mode not d3d).  Testing out the rest as I type :D

EDIT: Well.. so far everything seems fixed not using any patches whatsoever.  I love you for saying to try change res, cause that's what made me reinstall and try it w/o any patches again.. it is running painfully slow (even for this old beast of a machine).  Sosososo many hugs!!

PS-Forgot to mention above, don't think I have sp1 or 2 installed but I do have all the other xp updates.

PSS-Also saw another thread where someone was talking about resizing their own movies to make them bigger, but it just cropped them back to original size.. is there maybe a way to do this in reverse and just make my gave movies smaller and then nothing might get cropped?  :-?

PSSS-I know I'm evil for asking 9,000 things on day one of membership.. but anyone know if using a ps2 adapter should get my usb game pad working, and if not if there is a fix to make usb pads work for ff7?

Well, maybe try the High-res beta patch currently in this forum.  Don't have much to lose =)

And of course a usb joystick will work with the game; you just have to map the buttons to the numpad fucntions

I looked around but can't find where to map gamepad stuff to keyboard, have a microsoft sidewinder game pad.  Might I just need newer drivers, or fancier ones.. or I am just not looking in the right place?

EDIT: From what I can find, you can't do it in win XP because it doesn't support the software that lets you.. it just has built in support for microsoft gamepads.  Talk about USELESS!

PS-Unlike the nice peeps here, who helped me the day I asked!  8)

I have a microsoft sidewinder joystick and I can use it in the game. You just have to go to the menu (inside FF7) and go to Config. There you go to controller and select customize, inside the costumize menu you can map the gamepad for the keyboard or joystick. I hope this helps you out :)
