Oh my bad....about the PCI video card thing.
As for FF8...the last time I saw it run fine in Direct3d mode was with Gigabyte's Det 53.03 drivers, and that was with Win98SE and with the Anti-alasing paste and cut for Rivatuner, would get blocks otherwise.
I don't think I ever tried it with Nvidia reference drivers.... But I'm sure if you searched around the 50's you might get lucky. But the drivers would not work on their own...you had to do the paste and cut Forceware thing, that's in that FF7 sticky thread....and select FF0d (well, when I did it at the time, anyway). .
My findings should be in that FF7 sticky.

Anyway, that's the only path you're going to find towards a solution for FF8.... You're going to need to find a video driver where the 8bit pallet was done correctly, or one that you can manipulate thru anti-alasing. I know for a fact that the drivers that were out when FF8 was released worked. Can't remember what version number they were though. 14.xx probably. But those old drivers will definitly not work on these newer cards.
