Interesting to see how the slightest hint gets the FFVII fan community into a huge hype again

Throughout all my years of online research of Final Fantasies online, it seems that FFVII fans will always be ready to accept the slightest possibility of a remake

Anyhow, what really is the crux of the matter here? I've been considering the evidence given by the fanbase, the technical difficulties involved, and the actual profitability of a remake...It seems to me that the conditions seem to be pointing in favour of a remake. Why? Well, according to the fanbase, it seems that many people wouldn't mind paying a decent price for the game, so surely, in terms of finance, Square-Enix wouldn't be any worse off for making the game?
Hmm, at first I tried addressing this issue by myself, but either because I'm tired or because my brain is fried from studying, I can't seem to formulate my own answer as of now...so maybe, you guys can help me out a bit by addressing these points?
1) What would Square-Enix get out of a remake, and is this enough for them to want to make one?
2) Would the game really be well-appreciated by the gaming community, considering current trends in the type of games appreciated by the average gamer?
3) Tying in with point 2, is the FFVII fanbase large enough to provide a substantial market?
Obviously it'd be DAMN nice for Square-Enix to go and make a remake, I mean, the mere fact of nostalgia would set many FFVII (or whatever other FF's they decide to remake) fans crying

However the point remains, as a company that has to consider it's financial issues, would Square-Enix just somma make a remake just to please fans?
Oh, and a bit off topic, but did any of you read about the "empirical evidence" provided by some fans that Aeris died as a result of "rushed development"? Furthermore, do you think, should there be a remake, that she should be made to come back in the game in about disc 3, something along the lines of "...similar to Sephiroth, I floated around the lifestream, gathering knowledge. When I finally understood what my purpose was, I knew I couldn't return to the lifestream yet, so I came back..." Wouldn't that be cool

But I agree with Solis, he's totally right, FFVII was a very complex and innovative game in terms of characters. For once you had the hero-type character (cloud) who was actually a real failure and SCARED (after the temple of ancients on disc one when he doesn't wanna face sephiroth and poops his pants). Then you had Aeris, a main character, dying, and never coming back...And yes, Sephiroth IS cool

(Especially in FFVII:AC)
So would it detract from the value of the game should Aeris be resurrected? Heh...what do you guys think.
