need FF7 help here
« on: 2005-07-29 15:02:24 »
Hey guys, I'm currently stucked at the part where Cloud surrenders the black materia to Sephiroth and the weapons come out of Northern Crater. The FMV simply crashes on me. I've checked that my biglight.avi is corrupted. Could someone please please help me play past that part? If I could, I do not want to tinker with the registries and all that technical stuff. Please let me know if you're willing to help and I'll send my save file to you by email. Thanks

w8, so you dont have the movies in your hard drive yet?

I really suggest you put em in there since it makes the movies run so mch smoother.

AS for the corrupt file just copy biglight.avi from your cd and that should do it..

but I thought that if the movie can't run on windows media player, it means that that file is gone/unusable (even if copied to hard drive)? I don't know.. haven't tried doing that yet.

Yeah, yazoo, he said he didnt want to do all "that technical stuff", so moving the movies to his HD is probably a last resort.

Enigma, what kind of cd drive do you have? or are you using a dvd drive?  becaue the physical location of biglight.avi is near the edge of the disk, whcihsome older/slower cd players have trouble reading.

What you could try is this:

alt tab into windows just before the movie.  Find biglight.avi under cdrom/ff7/movies  and try playing it in winamp a few times.  or did you say you can't?  anywyas, if you can get it to play, it will be stored in memory, and you can go back into the game and it will play =)

Your disk might also be scratched or dirty.  try cleaning it off and see if that imporves anything =)

actually, I mounted it on daemon tools. btw, I tried copying the movies onto my hard drive and tried the substitution movie trick. Well, it did work and I got past to the Barret and Tifa scene in the shinra medical room. However, my happiness was short-lived when I suddenly got a black screen the moment I moved Tifa to talk to Barret again. Aaarrggghhh!!!

Ok, I can't take this anymore. I need to go and sleep. I'll try again tomorrow. *sigh*

p/s: btw, I'm a girl ^_^;;

Solved problem. I got another working copy of the game. It seems that the iso I got was super corrupted.

Iso? Copy? My My, what could this imply? In a double post too, tsk tsk. Anyways to the point of this reply, I posted the save of the next possible save point for someone else I can't find the topic though.. I think it was written by "Reno-Red"

It implies she created an ISO and mounted it using daemon tools.  She said it herself.

Thank you for explaining ^_^ The original CD was kinda scratchy, so I wanted to make a backup copy of it to play on the computer instead of wrecking it further. But looks like I was making an iso of a very bad CD already *sigh* Anyway, I got the new copy from a friend, so there.

Heh, I do it all the time, Alot of my DVDs are copies, cause I buy pre owned DVDs from my local indie shop for like...£2.99 each, if I find they skip, i just ISO them and then put them on a DVD RW.
