FF VII PC FMV / 3D Models don't line up
« on: 2005-08-05 02:08:28 »
I always check all these forums to make sure my question hasn't been asked (that I see) before I post.  Then I usually decide that if no one else had the problem I'm probably doing something stupid :)

So, anyway, my question is:  I'm running FFVII in XP (it doesn't seem to matter what patches I apply) and in the scenes where the realtime 3D characters are overlayed on FMV, they don't line up where they're supposed to, and don't move in the right way or at the right rate as the video plays.  Generally, this is just annoying, but it can lead to situations where after the scene finishes Cloud is "lost" (not where he is supposed to be on the screen).

Is this normal?  Is it just me?  Info appreciated.

Sounds like your video is lagging.  here:

http://www.ff7-universe.com/Downloads/FF7Movietweak.txt  [edit: fixed spelleing >_< ]

If that doesnt work, that means your video card is t3h sux.

or you're using software render mode, which can't play fmvs for shit.

For the record, I'm running an Athlon 64 2800, 512mb and a Geforce FX5200.  I'm running in 3d accelerated mode, and it doesn't seem like my movies run slow.  In fact, it's the realtime elements that don't seem to move far or fast enough to keep up with the FMV (example: in the cosmo canyon observatory, when you go up in the elevator with Bugenhagen, cloud and bugenhagen end up suspended in midair halfway up when the scene finishes playing).  I can't look at that text file you linked right now, because that site seems to temporarily be down.

This is also documented on your installation cd...

The other solution is copy all the movies from the CD onto the hard drive.     the movies for the game are located on each game disk 1, 2, and 3 in the \ff7\movies directory.  This will not put more than the 500M or so of movie data on your HD.

Once you have copied the movies to the hard disk run regedit and find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII

You will find the line that says:

"MoviePath"="d:\FF7\Movies\"

Click on the key "MoviePath" and click on Edit on the Menu bar at the top of the Window. Click on Modify. Enter the new path:

"MoviePath"="c:\windows\desktop\Movies\"(or which ever path to which you saved the movies.)

When you change disks, will will need to copy the movies on the new disk to the hard drive in the same directory.  It is safe to delete the movies as you will not return to the previous disk.

That what the link i gave him basically says, reunion =)

Without the "having to copy each disk sepreatly" part =P

And yes, some movies/field animations do not synch.  The obsrvatory, the "Barret and dyne get thier hands shot off", and the "being thrust into the planets core" movies and their respective field animations never line up correctly.

Just a note, you MUST have the '\' at the end of the location name for where you put the videos.
