Submarine Glitch

First off, hi.

I came across this little glitch about a year and a half ago and viewing this site reminded me of it. Since this is a heavily based FFVII forum, I thought I'd share this little bug with you guys.

Basically, I found away of taking the submarine out of the water and onto land/into the highwind. I'm going to extract the following information about this find from my old website (it's down at the moment but the cache of it can be found here..)

Quote
This glitch is quite weird, usually you can't move the submarine at all (cause it stays on land) although, the little river near the old mans cave, I once got the submarine to land in the dark water, then epsxe crashed (?); window closed and it reported some error which i forgot to take down :<

Im not 100% sure if this glitch can be succesfully replicated again on a normal PSX or in other versions (this is the NTSC version) and i have only tried it on disc 2 (thats where i currently am :) ) I have the saved state for epsxe which will let me try it over and over, and i have sucessfully replicated it after doing certain things such as moving the chocobo, entering + exiting a town etc etc.. One strange thing is, when your on the submarine with the chocobo, if you go and visit the chocobo ranch and store your chocobo in there, when you re-emerge from the stables the submarine is back in its original spot beside junon (no duplicating subs for us :<<<<) ! Also, this exact thing happens if you hit the menu key while flying in the Highwind (with the sub + chocobo).

Anyways, if your wondering how to do it, simply look at picture one and align the submarine & chocobo in the exact state thats in the image. Now, go and ride on the chocobo and if succesful, the submarine should have disappeared and merged with the chocobo! Whilst moving around on the chocobo or highwind, you will notice little gfx glitches popping up, such as the one shown in the 4th image from top.

POINTS TO NOTE
1. If you deploy the submarine on land, you can exit it once. You CANNOT exit it again after jumping back in, all you can do is spin it around.

2. If you deploy the submarine on land and get off the chocobo, it will not move back to its original location (ie water?). This can be a serious fuck up if you saved the game whilst the submarine is on land because you will not have access to any of the underwater missions/side quests/weapon fight. Simply put, dont save the game when the submarine is on the land!

3. I've found one place where it crashed, after i sucessfully got the submarine onto another piece of water not normally reachable, it crashed instantly. This place was the little navy river going up to the old mans cave. There is possibly more places around that can cause a crash or that are maybe even accessable, if you find any feel free to drop me a mail and ill stick them up here and supply the credit!

4. These screenshots have been giving a Buttonized look to simply blend in with the sites back ground. I'll upload the ones with no border some time soon!

5. I found this glitch out on Monday, 8th of March 2004, ~4am. I have never heard or seen this glitch before, so if it has been sighted before please let me know.

Useless bug, perhaps. I have the exact save file of this bug so anyone with a psx emulator + bin should be able to replicate it.

Matt.

Mod Edit: Moved to game tweaking

Ok, found the saved state there a few mins ago. Included a little read me with it.

This state works with EPSXE and a copy of FFVII USA - Disc two. The actual glitch I presume would work on a pc too, never tried it (never bought that version.)

Oh and I've tried this on a psx too. It works but the only problem was it took me a bit of time to get the chocobo and sub in place.

Anyway, file can be downloaded here: http://centipedemassive.com/FF7_Sub_glitch.zip

Have fun!

Fixed here - as above.

Interesting, it appears that Ruby disappears when I ride the Highwind with the sub/chocobo. I've never noticed that before. Does any one know if there is a limit on the amount of models that are displayed on the world map at once?

Also, this works with a black chocobo (just got around to testing ;> )
