ATI card malfunction
« on: 2005-10-08 08:45:39 »
well I've looked all over for a fix for this but I've come up very short. I can run FF7 and i get movies just fine but once it hits actual game play i get a black screen with the diolog bubbles on it, after i close those out i cant do anything.

the config utitlity dosent recignize any of my hardware short of my soundcard and I'm still at the 0hrs of play mark on a game ^^;

my system specs are below:
2.4ghz p4
winXPsp2
ATI Radeon 9700 (reads hardware as 9600)

no updates or patches I've found work at all. hopefuly someone can help me out or beat me over the head with a 2x4 to put me out of my missery. I bought the PC version because my playstation version was used as a coaster and no longer works. MUST HAVE FF7!

have you used ff7nvidia patch properly?
(when launching ff7 configuration use as renderer d3d and check NVIDIA)

do you notice this malfuncion when you launch other games?
if yes you could try to wipe all ati drivers from hdd and install original from box with card.

Don't know very much about ATI, other than it never really liked to work with FF7PC. Nvidia is more do'able with FF7PC.

Anyway, if Software mode isn't working for you.... (which means, straight after a standard install of the game. no patches) Then about the only thing you can try are older video drivers. Other than that....I can't think of anything other than switch sides to Nvidia.

About the only other thing you can do is get the PS1 version of FF7. Study up on a program called ePSXe....and play the game that way.

I've got an ATI card, it's an X800 XL... and the game works fine with the version 1.02 patch.  Tick the nvidia box and the TNT box, even though it isn't an nvidia.
