I broke my FF7 disc 2. That in itself is ridiculous, because I've tried breaking cds before. They bend before they finally snap. Not my FF7 disc! No, I pushed down on it to release it from the grasp my laptop's cd drive and SNAP! 1/4 of the disc snapped RIGHT OFF!

Okay, not such a big deal I have a fast internet connection, and I can find an iso and download it. And guilt-free, might I add, since I already payed for the game once. And so I did; I downloaded it, and burned the iso (or, actually, mdk or whatever the hell it was), and it worked! I was playing on disc 2.

UNTIL...... I got to the FMV of the Northern Crater. The absolutely useless one that plays just before you go in. The video crashes half-way through the movie. "Okay," I thought, "it happens. I'll just try again." It crashes again. So I open up the disc in the explorer, and open the movie file directly. It crashes half way through. I bring the disc up to my desktop, and try it there. It crashes half way through.

So now I'm stuck again.

BUT OH IT DOESNT STOP THERE IM AFRAID

I know that bluelaguna.net has FMVs for various videogames, including those for Final Fantasy VII. I still had hope. I could download a working version of the avi, and make my OWN disc 2!

But again, my hopes were thoroughly dashed. The file from bluelaguna.net is also corrupt! Not in the same way, though. Bluelaguna's file won't open at all!!

So I'm completely stuck until google finds another website with FF7 FMVs.

I think I've died and gone to hell, because all of this is absolutely ridiculous.

You can sympathize or share your own terrible video-game related stories now, if you wish.

Can you test your discs? And I mean all of them, not just the one you've downloaded recently.

Have you tried simply switching the file by some other AVI video?
By the way, I remember really bad experiences in the times of the floppy disks. Specially, I'll never forget the first game I bought: Day of the Tentacle. The 6th disk was defective. I exanged it 3 time, but the 6th disk was allways wrong (don't ask, I can't understand it either). The last time the store checked the disks and found there was a virus on them so they refused to exange it any more. Well, the 6th disk had a phisical error so I'm completly sure the virus wasn't responsible for it. I never got that game to work. Luckly, 3 years, after buying a CD drive, a friend of mine lent me his copy and I was finally able to enjoy that wonderful game.
Moral? Flopy disks are evil.

I feel for you man.

I remember when I first had ff7 for the ps1 in 97'
Soon after completing it I lent it to a kid in our street in exchange for another game (resi evil survivor lol) and when I got it back disc 3 had paint all over it. =/
A couple years after that incident I lent my mate my recently aqquired copy of ff7 (which took ages to get hold of) - after I got it back, on the way home I noticed it had been stolen from my bag.

Ever since then Ive had a non-stop urge to always have a mint copy of FF7 so I can play it whenever I wish.

I think I might laminate my current ('FF7+mousemat in box'!!1!) and frame it on my wall for all eternity.
