Seeing this inspired me to clean up the ol' desktop. I usually have the "Show Desktop Items" turned off, so I just save stuff to the desktop anyway without actually putting the files where they belong; that said, my desktop is down to My Computer and a single filefolder, so I might as well just post the picture from where I got it, no?

http://66.90.73.203/el/elisha1711024x768.jpg

On a side note, it's hosted on http://www.sexydesktops.co.uk which is a very good resource for finding wallpapers of virtually any celebrity (except male... not that I'm complaining, but who doesn't want to add a little Kiefer Sutherland to their life now and then?).

I feel better plugging them after killing a bit of bandwidth.

Someone set you up the bomb - you have no chance to survive, make your time.

For my desktops are made of win and l33t.

One...

...two...

...three...

and four.

For great justice!
Clicking on the pictures will magically show you a larger, native resolution screen shot (270 to 340 KB).

There's a teeny weeny bit of cheating going on, it doesn't actually change the QOTD at every desktop switch (although it can be set to do just that), I just refreshed it manually to give you something new to read. :)

Oh... the wallpapers (made by Tigaer - my new God) suffer a bit from the jpeg compression in those shots. I just figured that the tradeoff would be desirable over massive file sizes. :)

And for the ones a with very keen eye - yes, there are two instances of Winamp running. :P Completely by accident.

Heheh, well here goes . . . I'll say it in public, Jari.  That has to be the sexiest Windoze Desktop I've ever seen.

Anyway, I'll join the fray:

wee!

widgets!

As usual, clicking one of the above images will link you to the original (quite big, but nicer looking.)

It's a genuine Tony Taka.  Well, the girl at least is, anyway.  I'm not sure about the background, though.

ice_cold513: Awww, thanks. :)

Your Christmas desktop is very cute, too - not to mention very Christmasy with the taskbar and all. :)

I've had couple of different anime-themed Christmas desktops along the years myself - it's just that it's difficult to find enough wallpapers, because I'd need them either in 1600x1200 or good enough quality in lower resolution that they can be resized and still look nice. Not to mention that I'd need four of them. Well, not need, but I prefer to have different wallpaper on each desktop, partly because it works as a visual cue about what desktop I'm currently on and partly because it looks neat. So, the wallpaper search is somewhat of a pain in the ass. :|

That's totally a thumbnail. The full size is totally 1280*800. You can totally click the thumbnail to see the full size image. I totally made that wallpaper about a week ago. The wallpaper in the shot is totally 640*400. I'm totally gonna shut up now.

Awwww, I think that your desktop is nice. :)

Yeah, it seems to be called Terragen - 69.

Terragen very likely comes from the fact that it's partly done with Terragen. :-P Which has a free version, btw, and is a very nice and relaxing thing to play with...

...even though achieving the quality of the real Terragen artists is not very likely for most of us. But compared to things like Lightwave and 3DSMax it's very easy to use, which makes it fun.

Skillster: It's called Windows DreamScene and is an Ultimate Extra - although, only select Beta testers have access to the update at the moment. I'm pretty sure it will be publicly available soon (possibly just as a Release Candidate though). You can basically play any video file you want in the background including HighDef content. Google DreamScene for more information.

Jari: How does BSPlayer work? The good thing about DreamScene is that it uses the GPU (as apposed to the CPU) so it's not hogging precious CPU time.

It's been 5 years since I used it - at least as a wallpaper (and no more than few minutes back then either, it's horribly gimmicky and gets real old real fast) - but I believe that it just makes a large video overlay, and pins it to the desktop, or something. It should use exactly as much resources as playing such a video clip in regular window.

BSPlayer is not the only player to do it, either. I just don't remember the other one right now.
