New model idea?
« on: 2006-05-19 21:51:47 »
I was wondering if anyone here thought it would be possible to use screenshots from Advent Children, and a model editor to update both the field and battle models of the characters in a similar fashion to what is currently done in reunion and reconstruction patches.

Be interesting to have photo-realistic models in such 'poor' textures, though.

On that note, has anyone ever seen/heard of an updated textures pack, akin to what was done for System Shock 2?

Hi,

One question ... do you have an idea of the hours or days that it would take to modeling just the head of a cloud or any character so it looks like the how it looks like ???  However I've been thinking of doing models on 3ds max so they look better but it will not be as good as advent children that's for sure .... Anyway the 3d engine of final fantsasy VII wouldn't support it, unless you do all the lighting and detail manualy witch would take weeks to do only the hand or somthing like that.

Heh.  Thats a very good point.

I didn't even think about the engine being unable to handle it, my idea was more along the lines of using screenshots and a little bit of photo editing to apply....characituization to a 'blank' model.  I don't have much history in modeling, all I've ever done is a bit of basic programming.  It was just an idea, though.

Well ... the models are realy in 3d so .. you cannot just take screenshot to do it... you would have to do a complete models with the detail of the movie... witch would take a bunch of time.

but look:

That's the kind of head I could do if I could take my 3ds max model to the game hehe.

I'd just like to see slightly more detailed battle models.  Like fingers on hands (like hi-poly cloud), a few more polygons to curve out round areas (Yes, i mean boobies, shush), details on buckles... i don't think it would stress the engine too much to add an extra 30-50 polys per charater.  I wouldn't want them to look like they were from AC though (well, i gues we could make Cloud's uniform a little darker, heh).

You're right the engine would support it that's for sure... but for now I'm focusing on the field models.  Maybe later I'll do it hehe.

Well considering how the models are structured this might not be too bad.
However be sure the parts are scaled to the identical size as the original.

Here are some 'issues'
Detailed hand cannot have animation for the fingers. (no finger bones :D ) So they will be static.
Models will not deform etc in an organic manner. It's because the engine uses individual models for each 'bone' and they are stuck together like a DOLL would be :D

You will need to model arm and leg parts hands feet torso waist head and weapons as seperate models and glue them together in almost identical proportions.  This will prevent the animation data from being incorrect (basically).
The field models have the same number of bones as the battle models (surprised?)

All I can think of off the top of my head.

Cyberman: Not sure who you were talking to, but, I basically just want all the battle models to be as detailed as "high-poly Cloud".  I wouldn't ask to go for hyper-realism or anything.  Heck, Cloud wouldn't even need to be done.  Vincent.. mweh, not much you can do for him unless we can add bones and animation data to make his cape flow better (instead of as a series of rather-visible blocks).

Wow adding bones will cause many problem so I don't think we can do it for now.  Maybe later when a program will be made to change the annimation files.

Yeah, i know... damn pipe dreams.

Would it be possible to somehow model the characters so that thier joints and such aren't as obvious, or would we still need animation/bone data to show where such polygons are?  (for instance, when Rude bends over a bit -his default pose, no less-, his back has a pac-man-mouth-looking effect)

Well it's be possible to exchange the parts by other parts and even adding parts to the bones.  But you can't add bones.

Would they (Gods of all us geeks) be able to incorporate hi-res (and I mean really hi-res) models into q-gears?

The model itself has no resolution, it is completely scalable. The textures have a resolution, and I don't know if that needs a new engine or not.
