Question about FF7
« on: 2006-06-23 21:18:26 »
I started playing FF7 again. I first start on psx...the loading time was horrible. So I came to pc (I own the original in french) and started again. Loading is faster but I find the game to be a bit...slow. Mostly because I have been playing GBA & SNES roms on emulator with turbo on. So I tryed to use the ePSXe, downloaded the bios file (I own the original so again, nothing illegal). I run the emulator and rom but could not find good videos plugin to fit my CPU and video card.

My question is not about that, that was just to explain the situation. What I am wondering is, is there possible to make the PC version of the game run faster? Because frankly, I find the game kinda slow.

Do you have the actual PC CD-ROM or the PSX CD-ROM on an emulator. If it's the emulator, wrong forums.

Not to mention that earlier he tells us that he owns the French PC version.

The game is a little slow. It's not meant to be completed in an afternoon; hell, I've had the PC version since last July, and I'm still finishing up loose ends in the game (granted I really probably only played a couple hours a day [at best] for about five total months of the past eleven). But still.

I recently finished everything on the PSX version (recently as in last year). Everything to my knowledge, anyway. I couldn't even tell you how long I spent on that PSX file. It's been off and on for years over the past several.

The point is, it may be a little gameplay slow. But if it's lagging, then try running in Win98 compatibility mode. That fixed up all the real CPU lagging. What's your system specs?

There is no lag, I just find that the game is slow paced, really slow and if it is possible I'd like to go throught some boring part of it in turbo mod (best example would be the boring kalm flash-back). I wanted to know if anyone here did make some tweaking to make this possible, thought I did have my doubts. That was the main reason I tryed to use an emulator, I am not a croock, I don't donwload a game or use emulator unless I do own the originals. (Example, I downloaded FF8 in English for pc because I was bored with the crappy french traduction)

Like I said, I have no intention to ask about emulators, I asked help for the PC version.

As for my spec AMD Athlon(tm) 64bits proccessor
2gig of ram, pc3200
Geforce 7900xfx

And your doubts are confirmed. To my knowledge, this is as fast as Final Fantasy VII for PC goes; however, I feel fairly confident that if you nag (:-P) a bit more, maybe one of the more knowledgable guys here can whip you something up that allows you to bypass some of the more "boring" parts of the game. It actually wouldn't be hard at all to do, I think you just have to set certain "event flags" so that the game thinks you've already done something. But really, what's the point of playing the game if you're skipping all (or at least some) of the important events? Leveling is boring as all hell, there is only two, real challenges, the storyline bosses are a joke. The story is what keeps me going each time; try to learn something new each time I play.

But to each his own, I guess.

EDIT: Oh yeah, regardless of whether or not the English Final Fantasy VIII plays better than the French one, it doesn't matter: Downloading it is quite illegal :-P. But this is neither the time nor the place for that discussion, hm?

YAMP version of Gypt has a side effect of speeding up the game if movie skipping was requested when there was no FMV playing at the moment. It'll only speed up in field though...
