FFVII black blocks.
« on: 2006-09-09 10:03:45 »
So I finally got me the PC version of FFVII, after giving up on the French version(Clad >: o) and looking for ages for the PC or PS version.
And it works, but there's one major problem: In some of the towns, I'm getting these annoying black blocks. It's only when I'm outside, and I've experienced it in the Shinra building too. Text will go above them, but Cloud himself will go underneath them.

So could anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

Dammit.

I've seen this problem before, and I KNOW I've helped fix it, but I can't quite...remember...how...

I was PRETTY sure that if you installed the high resolution patch, it fixed the boxes. For some reason, that occurs to me. If that doesn't work, then you can try and play around with your video mode (NVidia, TNT, etc.) in FF7Config.

Hrm. I just tried that patch, said something about having to run a previous patch, etc.
Did so,and afterwards the game wouldn't run anymore. Removed patches, gots my backups, black blocks still there :"(

I tried playing around with the video mode, but it always freezes up after the intro bits if I choose either RIVA or TNT, neither works.

Are you running the game under the software renderer or direct 3d?

Try starting from scratch. Then install the 1.02 patch. Then install the high-resolution patch. There are two parts to this patch so install the main part first then the 1280*1024 patch second. Hopefully it should work.

Running under Direct3D but I'll try the other one too.

I'll try the latter too.

I have many graphical issues with my ff7.  putting it in software rendering fixes them all but slows the game down at some points.

Software renderer didn't fix nothing :"(

What graphics card do you use?

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, it says.

Have you tried fully unistalling the game and the reinstalling it?

Can I do this without deleting all my saves?

Sure, just stick all the saves in a different place.
